Monday-today I read about The volunteers were told to wear long pants and sturdy shoes, to bring a driver's license so they could prove they were not minors. They were asked to check in and then placed in groups of four or five, maybe more. For three long weeks, her parents have lived with uncertainty, police have called regular press conferences and volunteers have joined professionals in the effort to find her. By Saturday afternoon, Find Lauren Day, as it was dubbed, had drawn about 400 or so people, said Kelly Holloway, who was helping coordinate search teams. A neighbor of Rossman reported seeing Spierer leave around 4:30 a.m., but police said they found no sign of her after the 3 a.m. As she has done at almost every news conference, Charlene Spierer pleaded again Friday for anyone with information to come forward.

Monday-today I read about the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants Monday for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and two of his relatives. The warrants are "for crimes against humanity," including murder and persecution, "allegedly committed across Libya" from Feb. 15 through "at least" Feb. 28, "through the state apparatus and security forces," the court said in a news release. Libyan government spokesman Musa Ibrahim has previously denied the allegations and criticized what he said were incoherent conclusions of the prosecutor's office. The European Union said it "fully supports" the court and underscores that the court's Libya investigation "is an independent judicial process which must be fully respected. Authorities believe Moammar Gadhafi ordered attacks on unarmed civilians, he told CNN, and al-Sanussi is "his right-hand man, the executioner.“
Monday- Today I read about James "Whitey" Bulger will appear in court Tuesday, where a federal judge will determine whether the reputed Irish mob boss can afford to pay for his own attorney. The U.S. Attorney's office in Boston, where Bulger is being prosecuted, filed a response Monday to the request, challenging the notion that the federal government pick up his legal tab. Bulger lived "a relatively comfortable lifestyle" with his girlfriend for the 16 years he was a fugitive, including numerous gambling trips to Las Vegas, according to a government document filed in his case. Agents found $822,198 in cash much of it in packages containing $100 bills that were bundled together and hidden inside a wall in the apartment when they searched his home last week. Bulger, 81, and Catherine Elizabeth Greig, 60, were arrested Wednesday after he was lured out of his Santa Monica, California, apartment by an FBI ruse. The alleged East Coast mobster, who was on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list, faces charges in 19 mob-related murders.
Tuesday- Today I read about The Supreme Court has struck down a California law that would have banned selling "violent" video games to children, a case balancing free speech rights with consumer protection. The 7-2 ruling Monday is a victory for video game makers and sellers, who said the ban which had yet to go into effect would extend too far. They say the existing nationwide, industry-imposed, voluntary rating system is an adequate screen for parents to judge the appropriateness of computer game content. The state says it has a legal obligation to protect children from graphic interactive images when the industry has failed to do so. "As a means of assisting concerned parents it (the law) is seriously over inclusive because it abridges the First Amendment rights of young people whose parents (and aunts and uncles) think violent video games are a harmless pastime," wrote Justice Antonin Scalia for the majority.

The protesters are rallying outside the Greek Parliament building in the center of the country's capital, where lawmakers are set to vote Wednesday on a tough five-year package of tax increases and spending cuts. Police in riot gear manned barricades outside the building, as the latest of a series of rallies over the past several weeks heated up. Drumming and music reverberated around the square as the protesters tried to restore the peaceful atmosphere of earlier in the day, with no signs of the rally coming to an end. Thousands of marchers chanted slogans and unfurled banners in central Athens on Tuesday.
Tuesday- today I read about Casey Anthony's father took the stand again in his daughter's capital murder trial Tuesday, his frustration at the defense's allegations against him evident as he denied having an affair with a volunteer searcher and telling her that his Baez told jurors in his opening statement May 24 that George Anthony had an affair with Holloway. George Anthony testified he did visit Holloway at her gated condominium, showing identification to the complex guard. The meter reader who discovered Caylee Anthony's remains, Roy Kronk, took the stand just before lunch Tuesday. In developments Monday, Anthony was determined competent to proceed with her capital murder trial after she was examined by two psychologists and a psychiatrist over the weekend at defense attorneys' request.

Wednesday-today I read about The judge in Casey Anthony's capital murder trial declined to immediately rule Wednesday on a defense motion requesting that he declare Florida's death penalty law unconstitutional in light of a recent federal court decision. Martinez found the method used to impose a death sentence in Florida is improper "because it does not require a jury to make the findings of fact necessary to impose a death sentence." Florida is the only state in the nation that allows a jury to decide aggravating factors exist and recommend a death sentence with a majority vote. On Tuesday, a former Orange County, Florida, meter reader testified Tuesday about finding Caylee's skull in December 2008. Earlier, Casey Anthony's father took the stand again, his frustration at the defense's allegations against him evident as he denied having an affair with a volunteer searcher and telling her that his granddaughter's death was an accident that snowballed out of control.

The Donaldson and Game fires south of Hondo and U.S. Highway 70 have merged into one fire that has consumed an estimated 15,000 acres and is also 0% contained, according to the New Mexico Fire Information website.

Police statistics show the number of homicides so far this year in the U.S. island commonwealth is 16% higher than last year's figure for the same time period an increase authorities attribute to drug violence. Members of the defense team argued during the trial that their clients were victims of entrapment. The original sentencing was postponed from March 24 so the judge could hear defense arguments on the government's usage of a confidential informant in the case.

She was found dead in the villa she rented with Knox in the central Italian university town of Perugia, semi-naked and with her throat slashed. In December, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Prosecutors say the knife had been used to stab Kercher in the neck and that it had been cleaned. The DNA matter attributed to Kercher consists of flesh, not blood, they say.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against her. She has pleaded not guilty. The records the two sides wrangled over are from the former employer of Cindy Anthony. Prosecutors want to introduce them in an effort to prove Cindy Anthony was not home when searches for key words including chloroform were conducted on the Anthony family computer in March 2008.
