Today I read about a horrible terrorist attack in a Mexican casino . Hundreds of troops headed to northern Mexico Saturday as authorities continued investigations into the torching of a casino that left at least 52 people dead. Mexico's president, who described the attack as an act of terrorism, ordered the deployment of 1,500 troops to the city of Monterrey over the next three days, the country's defense department said in a statement. State officials released composite sketches of three suspects. And Mexico's Attorney General's Office said it was offering a 30-million peso ($2.4 million) reward for information leading to the capture of men they suspect were behind Thursday afternoon's attack in the affluent city.
Monday- Today I read about a male that was found dead in a fraternity house this weekend. He goes to University of Arizona. There was no indication of foul play or a threat to the community. Police and fire department officers responded to a call for medical assistance on Saturday morning. They found the man at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house. Tucson fire officials declared him dead. Alvarez did not identify the student and said no other information was available at this time.
Tuesday- Today I read about a woman that was attacked in her home while her friend was watching the whole thing on via webcam. The woman’s name is Qian Lui. She was web chatting with her friend when a man knocked on her door asking to use her phone. The woman was found in the basement naked from the waist down and her laptop was missing. Lui was an exchange student at York University. Police are not sure if she knew the man. This is not the first time a crime has been captured on webcam. In 2009 a woman was murdered by her husband while her friend watched. Later the police found the bodies of both the husband and wife dead.
Wednesday- Today I read about a man who allegedly hit his crying 7-year-old son and threw him off on a tour boat in busy Newport Harbor. Apparently the little boy was crying because his dad and his dad’s girlfriend was crying. The guys name is Sloane Briles. Sloane then took the boy to the bow of the boat and told him if he didn’t stop crying he was going to throw him over the boat. After that he threw hit him a couple times then threw him over the boat. The boy’s life was endangered several ways. He was charged with child endangerment and resisting arrest. The main charge was for throwing the boy off the boat because he could have been killed. After the boy was thrown over board three boats saw him and one of them pulled him out.
Thursday- Today I read about a Philadelphia police officer that was charged with rape Wednesday after allegedly assaulting a woman while on duty. Police Officer Keith Corley II was arrested and charged with rape, indecent assault, sexual assault and other related offenses. Corley, 27, has been with the police department for four years. According to CNN, a 32-year-old woman claims she was waiting for a bus around 3 a.m. on August 11 when she spotted Corley and flagged him down for a ride. The victim alleged Corley drove to an area in Cobbs Creek and forced her to perform a sex act, then dropped her off at the 69th Street Terminal. That's where the woman stopped a transit officer to report the attack."We are committed to rooting out those individuals who would violate the trust of the public and even commit crimes as a police officer. None of that is tolerable and we'll take whatever action we need to take in order to rid our ranks of them," Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey told KYW. Ramsey suspended Corley for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
Friday- Today I read about Casey Anthony faces six other charges as well as killing here 2-year-old daughter. The other charges include aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and misleading law enforcement. The jury must consist of 12 jurors, with several more people serving as alternates over the course of a trial that could last as long as eight weeks. The defense has one strike remaining allowing it to prevent a person from serving on the jury while the prosecution has three. Both sides started with 10 such options each, not counting scores of others whom Orange County Chief Judge Belving Perry Jr. had excluded for financial or personal hardships or other reasons. Jury selection was discreetly moved to Pinellas County in Clearwater about 100 southwest of Orange County where the alleged crime occurred . To draw from a larger pool of people unmoved by the intense media attention surrounding the case.

today I read about The death toll from the massive earthquake that shook eastern Turkey over the weekend rose to 535 Thursday, up from 471 the day before, but crews have been able to rescue 185 people alive from the rubble In addition, about 2,300 people were injured by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Sunday, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Relief Agency. A 5.2 earthquake hit about 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of the center of Sunday's quake, near the border with Iraq, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. Britain has pledged emergency tents for more than 5,500 people whose homes were destroyed, Home Secretary Theresa May said during a visit to Turkey Thursday.
It was unclear who the two brutally slain victims were, or whether they had any connection to social media. But analysts said that case showed the prominent role technology has come to play in describing and denouncing violence in Mexico.
Wednesday, today I read about Authorities that found eight bodies in a remote area in the Mexican coastal state of Veracruz. In recent months, violence has surged in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, which is the third most populous state in Mexico, with more than 7 million residents. In September, 35 bodies were abandoned in a roadway during rush-hour traffic in a popular tourist area of Boca del Rio, two days before a meeting of high-ranking state prosecutors and judges there. October, Mexican federal authorities announced plans to step up security in the state to help local police fight organized crime. Several days later, a total of 32 bodies were found in three locations in Boca del Rio. More than 43,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since President Felipe Calderon began a crackdown on cartels in December 2006, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Thursday, today I read about a Suspect Jose Manuel Ramirez Perez told the Reuters news agency Monday that he attacked flight attendant Nick Aaronson because Aaronson had sexually assaulted one of his friends. Hotel security camera footage and an operation in a nearby bar led authorities to 20-year-old Ramirez, the Mexico City attorney general's office said in a statement. Ramirez has previously been convicted on robbery charges, according to the Mexico City attorney general's office. He will be charged with homicide and robbery, "I wish they had the death penalty in Mexico," mother Anita Aaronson told CNN affiliate KPHO. "He took the bright light out of my life."
Monday, today I read about Nicaragua's constitution bars presidents from being re-elected, but that did not stop Ortega from running in his sixth straight presidential race. He was first elected as president in 1985, and ran unsuccessfully in 1990, 1996 and 2001 before being elected again in 2006. But recently, he has reached for the middle, making overtures to the business class and promising to lure foreign investors into the country. For Ortega's backers, re-election would guarantee that social and economic programs will continue. They want to see more investment in infrastructure, technology and more public housing, projects often financed through Venezuela. Running third in polls ahead of the election was Arnold Aleman, a former president who represents another liberal party. But some of those supporters have joined the ranks of Gadea's party. After leaving office, Aleman was convicted of corruption during his term and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2003, but in a controversial 2009 decision, the nation's top court overturned the conviction.
