Monday- Today I read about how people think that phone books are no longer needed. They are also saying that phone book are a waste of space. Green trendsetters in Seattle and San Francisco are trying to get rid of a lot of things. Such as phone books, plastic bags, Styrofoam and other products that have environment baggage. Critics are gaining momentum nationwide as millions of Americans stop using land lines and adopt smartphones with Internet. More people now are getting rid of house phones. Phone books may no longer be provided in San Diego. The publication of the Yellow Pages nationwide has fallen from a peak of about 600 million four years ago to about 425 million this year. But some people still think phone books are still useful.

FBI agents Monday arrested alleged Philadelphia crime boss Joseph Ligambi and 10 others in a takedown federal authorities hope represents a crushing blow to organized crime in Philadelphia. Among those arrested was alleged La Cosa Nostra "underboss" Joseph Massamino, according to Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer. The suspects were named in a 50-count indictment unsealed in Philadelphia. The indictment charges the defendants with witness tampering, extortion, loan sharking and gambling. The suspects displayed "all the hallmarks of organized criminal activity," Breuer said in a news conference in Philadelphia. He cited secret ceremonies and sworn blood oaths of loyalty. "As we continue our efforts to bring down these groups, we will use all the tools at our disposal, including wiretaps, undercover operations and consensual recordings," Breuer said. The arrests follows the roundup of 126 La Cosa Nostra leaders, members and associates in January. In March federal agents brought racketeering charges against key alleged mob members in New England.

Tuesday- Today I read about the primary suspect in the brutal beating of a of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodgers Stadium. He is a documented gang member on parole for a number of convictions. Giovanni Ramirez is associated with the Varrio Nuevo Estrada street gang, one of 34 gangs in a 15-square-mile area east of downtown Los Angeles. Ramirez was arrested Sunday and ordered held on $1 million bail. Ramirez was convicted of attempted robbery in 1998, robbery in 1999 and firing a weapon in public in 2005. He said Ramirez has been cooperating with authorities while in custody, though he declined to elaborate. Authorities say he was taken into custody shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday after police served warrants at a home and an apartment building in connection with the assault that led to Bryan Stow from Santa Cruz, California, being put into a coma. Stow was attacked in the stadium parking lot following the first game of the Dodgers' and Giants' seasons on March 31. Police withheld Ramirez's identity until his booking Sunday evening on an assault with a deadly weapon charge. In addition to Ramirez's arrest in East Hollywood, police seized evidence and detained several others -- all of whom Los Angeles police said they expected to release after they were questioned."This investigation is in its very early stages," Police Chief Charlie Beck said Sunday afternoon outside the stadium. "There are at least two other suspects who we are actively looking for."Stow's assault has galvanized law enforcement and other authorities in Los Angeles. In particular, security has clamped down at the park in the Chavez Ravine section of Los Angeles.

And Ramirez was arrested Sunday and ordered held on $1 million bail. Ramirez was convicted in a lot of robberies and a whole bunch of other stuff. He despites his thing he does. Thursday- today I read about A blind Michigan man, rejected by three law schools after scoring poorly on the Law School Admission Test, is suing the American Bar Association, arguing that the group's exam requirements discriminate against the visually impaired. The association's rules require students to take a "valid and reliable'' test. Binno's lawsuit counters that the LSAT is the only widely used, commercially available exam for assessing law school applicants, leaving, in effect, no alternative. The litigation focuses on the analytical reasoning or so-called logic games section of the test, which requires ''spatial reasoning and diagramming of visual concepts for successful completion by most applicants,'' according to the suit.

Thursday-today I read about the supreme court backed up the Arizona law that punishes businesses hiring illegal immigrants. The 5-3 ruling Thursday is a victory for supporters of immigration reform on the state level. The Obama administration recommended a judicial review and sided with businesses and civil rights groups. The case could serve as a bellwether to how the court will view a larger more controversial state immigration law from Arizona

They say that the older Jackson High School squad made the new members wear diapers, then shot them with squirt guns and hit them with hot dogs. School officials stated “when students make poor decision it is disappointing to them, as much as for the parents.” Several parents meet with school officials but the suspensions were not overturned.
