Today in the Union Tribune I read how Sproles gets a franchise tag. As the franchise player sproles will make $6.62 million in 2009. That’s unless he and the team workout a multiyear contract. The signing of Sproles is the first half of what the Charges hope is a running back double this week at the NFL Scouting Combine. At some point over the next five days, likely by the end of the weekend, they will meet with the agent for LaDainian Tomlinson to present their terms of restructed contract. I hope Lt retires as a Charger. The Chargers also have plans to attempt to resign quarterback Phillip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates, among others, over the next several months, the Chargers would like the flexibility (in actual money and room under the salary cap)that reducing Tomlinson’s contract provide.
According to the website known as signonsandiego.com a man attempting to cross 2.3 million dollars in cocaine is now being held in lock-up. The 21 year-old Mexican NATIONAL was driving in and out of lanes on the interstate 15 near rainbow valley road. He was finally pulled over but the driver appeared nervous and gave inconsistent answers to the agent's questions. The man was ordered to drive to the Border Patrol checkpoint, where a dog indicated to officers that drugs were in the SUV and the vehicle was searched. Agents found 25 packages of cocaine weighing 72½ pounds inside a hidden compartment in the fuel tank. The man had a valid border-crossing pass but didn’t know where he was going.
In today’s paper I read about the incident that happened last year 2007 about the police dog that died for trying to attack a man who was trying to jump off the Coronado Bridge. Yesterday, this man was sentenced three years and eight months in prison. Before 28 year old Cory Byron was sentenced, he had said that before anything had happened he had been drinking and had already decided to take his life. He told the judge he was focused on jumping off the bridge and didn’t realize the dog fell with him. Mr. Byron said he has learned from his mistakes. He also said that he wished that the police officer that was partners with the dog was there so he can apologize. The pressmen said it was a difficult decision but they sentenced him those three years and eight months in prison and he’s been in jail ever since the incident.
Today in the news it talked about Hilary Clinton going to Indonesia. She hopes to extend a hand to the once forgotten Muslim region. Also in local news a man that tried to commit suicide was sentenced to three years in prison. The man tried to jump off the Coronado bridge and took a police dog with him killing the dog but sparing his life. In sports news Sprolles will be named the new franchise running back.
In today’s paper I had read that the city of imperial beach might not be able to hold the sandcastles event thus because of funds. The topic will be how to raise the $50,000 needed to fund the annual event. In recent years the bulk of the event funding came from its headline sponsor. Last years headline sponsor declined to participate this year and a replacemetn sponsor has not been found.
In today’s paper, I read about the problems that are occurring with Facebook’s contracts and subscribers. Facebook reversed controversial changes with users that had appeared to be given ownership of their contributions to the website. The well renowned website declared that it didn’t have any such intentions and is temporarily rescinding the changes and restoring an earlier version of the membership contract. In other news a local man convicted of selling a fake cure is facing 140 years in prison and $500,000 in fines for 26 felony charges. Apparently the man electric current machines that he claimed could treat a wide range of conditions. His business is dais to have made over $8 million in revenue between 1997 and 2009.
Today I read about how the Chula Vista Shelter had problems and the city knew of the shelter woes. Veterinarian named Ginny Bischel, who has been a veterinarian for a year said that since summer she has recommended sweeping changes and has been ignored. She provided emails and letters she wrote to city officials. They detailed what she called chronic problems such as animals going days without medical attention, pet owners who came looking for animals that had been euthanized before they could claim them; and no staff training, accountability or discipline. Her contract requires her to review the shelters operation from organizational structure to medical protocols and make recommendations. She released her report last month. Under the contract , Bischel has been paid $103,331 and is owed 34,274. the city is correcting the problems and the shelter has improve since then. The city is recruiting a full time veterinarian and a manager to run the shelter. Although they know the shelter had difficult problems, they said focusing on the past is not productive. Its not sufficient to just propose standard, they must be enforced. Starting at the top, nobody has been held accountable.
According to Union Tribune newspaper a woman died in a fiery head- on crash on SR 125. A car collided head on with another vehicle, which overturned and eventually caught on fire on the state Route 125 which killed a Chula Vista woman injuring the other people that were on the other car. Other drivers saw Siddiqui veer right then left for no apparent reason on the northbound on the freeway by Jamacha Road. Siddiqui’s Toyota crossed the divided and struck a car going south which made the Toyota flip onto its roof. The dodge that was hit spun sideways and hit a Cadillac. Siddiqui died on the scene. The Dodge’s driver was a 28 year old Chula Vista man who was rushed to the hospital for moderate injuries. The driver for the Cadillac was a 36 year old man who had minor injuries and his 13- month old passenger was not hurt. My opinion for this article is to be careful when your driving. You could pay the price for your reckless driving. Trust me I've seen really serious accidents. It could happen to them, it could happen to you too. Would you ever want to lose your legs or other body parts because you were being careless? I hope not.
