Today in the news I read about the North Korean rocket launch. The North Korean rocket was launched at 11:30 am from a command center. The launch was supposed to put a satellite in orbit. Norad also known as North Atlantic Air Defense said that no satellite was put into orbit by the Koreans. Kim Jong il expressed great joy over a successful rocket launch. None of the parts of the rocket fell into the territory of Japan. Two different pieces of the rocket fell in two different sea’s. One part of the missile fell into the Sea of Japan and one rocket fell into the Pacific Ocean. President Obama was quoted saying "With this provocative act, North Korea has ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint and further isolated itself from the community of nations." This is the biggest international crisis since President Obama has been in office. Robert Gates said that the launch was a failure and did not prove anything to the American people. In other news Abdul Qadeer Khan has admitted to selling nuclear secrets to Iran, Libya, and North Korea. The link between Pakistani nukes and Iranian nukes is very clear.

In today’s paper, I read about how the peso’s recent slide is giving even bigger savings to Americans shopping in Mexico. The new drop in the peso has PERSUADED many Americans to seek for purchase for nearly all house hold items and necessities. In another story, Dr. Phil has been the latest person to CRITIQUE the Eaton Family’s shoplifting habit. On the show Laura and Matthew Eaton freely discussed their seven-year crime spree, which is believed to have raked in 10,000 dollars per month in goods. The Eaton’s also confessed to not only stealing the various items, but selling many of them on eBay for a cash profit. In another story, a suicide blast in a mosque south of Pakistan’s capital killed 22 people. The massacre came in CONTRAST to senior Pakistani Taliban commander’s information of previous bombings that were ordered by him as well. In a Friday prayer service in Afghanistan, a suicide bomber killed over 48 people in a mosque. Some militant groups that are historically sectarian are believed to have forged ties with the Pakistan Taliban. In another story, a father who discovered that his wife was leaving him killed all his five children before shooting himself. The children, ages 7 to 16, all discovered their mother’s after the eldest daughter and her father used a phone GPS program to track down her down. After seeing his wife with the other man a convenient store, the father went on a rampage killing spree that resulted in his death in addition to the gruesome deaths of all of his innocent children.

Today I read about how a couple that appeared on Dr. Phil’s show confess that they been stealing for like seven years. In front of the TV cameras and live audience, Laura and Matthew Eaton- your average deviant family with three children living in a San Marcos home- boasted of boosting a million dollars worth of merchandise from stores in California and other Western states. The Eatons appeared on the TV show “Dr. Phil” and freely discussed their seven year crime spree, which they raked in about $10,000 a month. The Eatons may have be the first criminals whose schedule of “jobs” was dictated in part by the tolerance of their young children for the tedium of serial stealing. They said that they confess in TV because in a way they want help so they can stop. I also read about 400 girls trying out to be a Charger Girl. They are only 28 spots on the team.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune I read the state isn’t not doing it’s job in keeping the youths out of the system. A company receives $650,000 for rehabilitation to the county’s young criminals is failing the needs of these youths and could lose its contract. A non-profit family service agency based in Hillcrest has canceled or cut behavior-reforms classes at the halls has not staffed enough counselors and failed to adequately follow up with youths on probation. The program was released $658,213 to stop high risk offenders who are not eligible to stay in juvenile prisons before they hit the prisons and to assist them once they are released from custody. Most of the people critique offenders because of how they get out. The agencies job is to persuade the public the juvenile has changed.

It was another eventful Sunday, beginning with an early-morning wake-up call for the traveling President Obama. As if his first overseas trip wasn't busy enough already, North Korea reminded Obama that presidents don't always get to pick their challenges. It added to the drama of an already big day. In a speech in Prague, Czech Republic, scripted to outline an ambitious goal to rid the world of nuclear weapons, the president added condemnation of North Korea's rocket launch and a call for quick international action.
