Today I read an article about NASSCO. The ship building company is one the major ship building company’s on the West Coast. NASSCO is located in San Diego. Recently the company took a big plunge. As a result the company is cutting about 1,150 of it’s employee’s. About half of those jobs are held by subcontractors. In 2000 they had 2,900, in 2005 they had 4,000, and in 2010 they had about 4,100 employee’s. Robert Godinez is the president of the local union.

Today I read about a Houston public school special education leader
was fired after a video was published on YouTube showing her drag and hit a 13 year-old boy.
Teacher Sherri Davis was caught on tape beating Isaiah Johnson, 13, who said he thought his teacher was "playing around" when she backed him into a corner at his Houston-area school.  The Houston special needs teacher attacked the 13-year-old as others watched.

In today's news I read about three people who were hospitalized and a drunk driver suspect who got arrested on Wednesday after they crashed and left the car split in two. The four drivers were driving on Interstate 15 to south Interstate 5 about 1 in the morning when the driver lost control of the car and hot one of the dividers. The driver was driving in a very high speed and that why he lost control of the car. The impact ripped the car apart and sent the back half to the other side of the highway. A traffic alert was issued until about 3:10 in the morning, and the traffic was diverted to the north bound in the I-5 while the authorities investigate what happen. The CHP officer said that there were evidence that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

This morning I read about a man who killed 9 kindergartners in Beijing. Gates and cameras have been installed in schools due to previous killings at several elementary schools in China. Security guars have also been taught to fight off men with knifes. The killer was a merchant with a kitchen cleaver. He hacked seven children to death. He also killed their teacher and her mother. The killer then returned home and killed himself. The Xinhua News Agency said the killer owned the property used by the school , and had argued with the schools manager, who was one of the victims. There has been other attacks and up to seventeen people have died, most of them little kids.
I think this is sad, the parents of all these little kids parents must be devastated. If I had a kid and lived in China I would not let my kid go to school, I would home school them.

Monday- Today I read an article about a whale caught in a net. The article stated that the whale was heading north for summer. The San Diego SeaWorld team were at the job helping out. The whale was an eighteen to twenty foot gray whale. They removed about one hundred pounds of netting and rope from the whale. Authorities got involved and are trying to save other whales from becoming stuck. The team did a great job although they stated that not all jobs like that ever come out that good. The whale was fine and was said to have began its journey for the summer.
This was a pretty cool article knowing that there was a whale here in San Diego shores. The SeaWorld team did a good job helping the whale. I think that this was done by the kind of fishermen that over fish all the time.
I learned that San Diego has really good people that help out the environment in many ways.

Monday- Today I read about Amber Dubois and her mom visiting the killer and rapist that killed her daughter. Since the day John Albert Gardener the third pleaded guilty to killing the Esco teen Amber her mom has been determined to meet with the killer himself and ask him why. Why her daughter why her innocent little daughter. So on Wednesday afternoon Carrie McGonigle got the answers in a 30-minute meeting with Gardner. Her mother finally got the answers that she wanted and now has her closure. She asked the questions and and he answered nicely and politely. I think that if I was the mother of a daughter that got raped and killed I wouldn’t be able to go and visit the man in jail I believe I would end up doing time somehow myself I wouldn’t be emotionally stable enough. That’s what I think.

On Wednesday, May 12, a man kills 9 at a Chinese kindergarten in Beijing. According to local government’s account, Wu, 48, stormed into the school just after 8:20 a.m. He used a cleaver to slash the school’s administrator and teacher, Wu Hongying, and a student standing by her side, killing them both. He then hacked at 18 students between the ages of 2 and 4. Six students and Wu Hongying’s 80-year old mother died of their wounds in a hospital. Eleven students were hospitalized. After the attack, Wu went to his house, where he killed himself.
To me, I believe this is intense. This is a tragic story, and no one has a valid reason to do something like this, even if they are psycho. I think schools need to crack down on security, so murderers and such, cannot gain access to the insides of schools. School officials need to find different techniques on how to set up security systems, so this doesn’t happen again.

Tuesday- Today I read about a couple different subjects the main one I read about is of a man that uses a disguise to rob banks. This scheme has been working for the past robberies and it will continue on working because the feds obviously haven’t caught him yet. I think this guy is smart and well adored and even has two face book pages that are well known. It’ funny how his pages say ”go geezer!“ like people are cheering him on because it’s an old man robbing banks and the feds can’t catch him. Ha-ha this guys smart. I also read about a girl who stopped at a shell gas station before she went to work and her car almost got stolen because she left her keys in the car. I think this girl is smart for fighting back because if it was me I would have not let him try to high jack my car. I wouldn’t let anyone steal my car period.

Today I read about a 20-40 year old man he said his name was a Lt. of armed forces he sexually assaulted her and he also stole many pieces of jewelry from the old woman. The police say they have 1 suspect in custody for stealing cars and he has no idea of the incident.

In today's news I read about a suspect in the 2007 shooting death of a 25 year old man who was arrested in Tijuana on Wednesday night and was turned in to San Diego authorities. Jose “Chubs” Torres,33, of the big SD was a wanted man in the death of Ivan Renteria on June 23, 2007. all this happen when a gunman pulled up to a house party on 41st Street and shot Renteria as he was standing outside. A $2 million arrest warrant was later issued for Torres. Torres was arrested by Mexican authorities near by the Colonia Herrera of Tijuana like about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He was later handed to the San Diego Fugitive Task Force and was booked into jail on a murder charge.

This morning I read about the “Geezer Bandit”. The Geezer bandit ahs held up nine San Diego County banks since August. FBI are trying to figure out if h e is using a disguise to rob the banks. The Geezer bandit has age spots, wrinkled skin a giant mole on his chin, and tubes going through his nose. The Geezer bandit even carries in his little bag. Officials seem mad about how three are two face book pages praising the bandit. Makeup artist say that the robbers hands look weird and puffy, so it might be a disguise. They are also mad about him victimizing people who are at tellers. I think that they just want people to hate him because people are actually saying they like the Geezer bandit.
I think that this is a disguise, I would think If The Geezer bandit is actually an old man he would not be able to leave the bank so fast, old men are usually slow.

Tuesday- today I read an article about an old man who robs banks. The man is said to have robbed about nine banks ranging from San Diego to Santee. The heists have been said to be a setup. The FBI has agents that have looked at the surveillance footage and stated that the man may not be old at all. It has been stated that the man may be in a disguise. The disguise is a really good one because he has not yet been caught. The banks that have been victimized have said that the man walks in hands a note to the teller and showed his revolver. The man then walks away with an undisclosed amount of cash
This was a good story because an old man has been robbing a lot of banks. The funniest thing about this is that he has not yet been caught. The FBI are really dumb and I cant believe that the man gets away every time.
I learned that the FBI cant catch an old man that has already robbed nine banks.

TUESDAY--In this edition of the San Diego Union Tribune, I read about the parents of the recent murder victims Amber Dubois and Chelsea King. The story gave an input of the parents, which we haven’t seen much of. It tells us about the remorse their parents have towards their kids and their views on who is the true person at fault. Moe Dubois makes a statement questioning if it is really the legal systems fault for letting Gardner out of jail for molesting a little girl. He was sentenced to five years for that, and was let out after five years. Soon after he found his next two victims, raped and then murdered them both. Carrie McGonigle did a news conference the day before stating how much she wanted Gardner to suffer for the heinous crimes he committed. I feel they have a valid reason to charge Gardner with life, but not death. Recent developments in the case show his innocence because of lacking evidence. I don’t feel they should make any rational conclusions. If he his guilty of one, it doesn’t mean he is guilty of both.

This morning I read a story about a 22 year old woman in Glendale who had made up a story about being abducted. Nancy Salas’ disappearance sparked a massive search. She said she fled because of stress. She turned up in Merced on Thursday, she had been seen last around 6:30 a.m. after telling her family she was going on her usual run. She had told police she had been abducted at gunpoint and driven to Merced, but she retracted her statement shortly before being reunited with her family. Authorities also found out that Salas had been lying to her parents, telling them she was attending college. I think that this lady is a compulsive liar. I think her mind should be assessed by a VALID and licensed doctor. I think it is sad that someone could lie to their parents.

FBI considering a theory as string of stickup stands at 9. The Geezer bandit may not be a geezer at all. The theory is gaining traction by FBI and professional makeup artists, who believe the old bandit may be using makeup as a disguise. The geezer bandit has already robbed 9 banks around California, and is bound to rob more. He appears to be in his 60s or 70s, and to add to his look , he has stuck thin oxygen tubes in his nostrils and carried the tank in a satchel during a handful of robberies. Makeup artists says his hands and face in the surveillance cameras look “blotchy, weird, puffy.” His latest robbery was on Tuesday morning when he held up a Bank of America in Santee. He shower the teller a demand note, placed a revolver on the counter and walked off with an unspecified amount of money. Old or not, the robber has attracted the public’s attention. The are 2 Facebook fan pages for the Geezer, with comments of fans who say they like him and “Go Geezer.” The FBI continues to release photos of the robber, hoping someone will recognize him.
In my opinion, I think this is hilarious. This old man can pull off robbing banks. I’m not advocating his behavior, but I think it’s one hell of a story to make the Union Tribune. Whatever his reasons to rob a bank, it is not valid. He has a unique technique on robbing banks, and somehow accesses the money in the end. I think he should quit while he can, before he gets caught in the future.

Today I read an article about some old man robbing banks. FBI suspects that the old man is just using a disguise and in fact might be a younger male. They say that the man has already hit 9 banks all at stick up in San Diego county. The call him the Geezer Bandit. He hit the U.S bank and Bank of America in Santee. The San Diego National bank on Jan.27 and the California Bank & Trust. He robbed a couple of banks in Rancho Santa Fe, in La Jolla, and in Vista.

In today’s paper I read an article about the assailant known as the Geezer Bandit. This Old man has stuck up over Nine Banks in the last nine months. He has granted his self access to these banks with his Elderly looks. Now authorities are starting to question weather his old looks are valid. Some say this is just another man in disguise, with help of some Hollywood-worthy special effects. His technique in Bank robbery is not only smart but working. I think that they wont catch this man for a long time. He seems to be very intelligent with the way he does his robberies. San Diego's going to have to step up there security game haha.

Montgomery had a 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun in his hand and appeared to have suffered a single gunshot wound, said police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley. The Griffins sustained multiple wounds.

Wednesday-- The San Diego Padres lost yet another game. The final score was 1-0 Dodgers. Throughout 7 innings, our pitcher, Wade LeBlanc, only gave two hits, nut the two hits made the game. Managers of the Padres say its going to be a long season. The Padres had opportunity to win the game, with four single hits, but nothing came from it. To be able to win the season there has to be a major turn around. Padres aren’t doing as well as I would like them to be doing. I think they are able to do much better, and I want them to get on their A game. I hope to see a turnaround and have them come out on top. I just don’t want them to fall too far down and not be able to recover from all the losses.

Wednesday- Today I read about A 20-year-old homeless man was arrested Friday on suspicion of committing three strong-arm robberies near Southwestern College this week and maybe more in past weeks, Chula Vista police Lt. Eric Thunberg said. The man was arrested about 10 a.m. at a shopping center on East H Street near Otay Lakes Road, Thunberg said. Southwestern College police and security at the shopping center were familiar with the suspect and provided information that led to his arrest. I think that this is bull why are they going to arrest this guy they don’t even know if it was him robbing people. I think that’s messed up they just want to point their finger at someone and fill out papers to get the job done.

In today's news I read about an American citizen is among three aid workers kidnapped in the war-torn western Sudanese region of Darfur. The 36-year-old Californian woman was with two Sudanese colleagues when their two-vehicle convoy was stopped by a group of armed men Tuesday, said Samaritan's Purse the organization for which they work. The abduction took place about 25 miles southwest of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state. The North Carolina-based organization said it was working with U.S. and Sudanese government officials to secure their release. The U.S. Embassy also is monitoring the situation. The United Nations estimates that 300,000 people have been killed in the conflict in Darfur, and 2.5 million have been forced to flee their homes. Sudan denies the death toll is that high

Wednesday- Today I read an article about an eighteen year old rapist. The teenager was said to have called his thirty year old girlfriend. He then proceeded to pressure her to robbing her own parents house. When she answered no she then got a hooded sweatshirt over her head to block her face. He took her to her house and put a knife to her neck and raped her. She stated that he did a lot of things she did not like. Well she then managed to get away and receive help. The police were in search of the suspect when he got away for about two hours. The man was then caught and is facing a lot of charges which means he is not getting out for a long time.
This was a sad article because a guy raped his own girlfriend. The police did a bad job almost loosing the man on a chase. I think that this man is going to get raped in prison for raping a girl.
I learned that people can play a role being your partner and then turn on you.

In today’s paper I read an article about the new system for sex offenders. With the death of San Diego residents Chelsea king and Amber. The state has to do a better job of keep access to these sex offenders. No keeping a valid look on the Offenders costed us the life's of two teens. Now the state is trying to be more safe. They have come up with a set of solutions for the situation. Poor technique when it comes to watching the people who harm, and good when it come too arresting a person of now harm. I think the state has a lot to work on, and the change there making right now will help a little but we need more effort.

wednesday-Fruit fly wings help reveal the secrets of life’s patterns and colors. Thomas Werner, a scientist who studies fruit flies, just made an outstanding observation. Thomas studied an adult fruit fly, placed it under a microscope, and was filled with excitement as he saw sea green fluorescent lights where one day black spots would appear. That means he has discovered the secret of the fly’s spots. The protein Wingless, in embryonic tissue, spreads throughout the fruit fly’s wings, creating the color pigments that appear on fruit flies. These insights may aid in human health research. The many genes that play important roles in human birth and developmental defects were first identified in fruit flies. It has taken Werner three years to develop the skills and techniques to create special modified fruit flies that turn on green fluorescent protein wherever they have yellow pigment. The scientists also made other modified fruit flies that were able to turn on the spot-making gene in new places. In doing so, they were able to control the pattern-making process in fruit flies. This will lead Werner to his dream of his life, to describe the pigmentation in butterflies and how they have changed over the revolution. In my opinion, Thomas has a valid, perhaps life-changing job as a researcher. This article may have revolutionary effects in biological science. It may gain us access to other secrets of life’s colors and patterns.

This morning I read about a pretty bizarre story. I read about an 18 year old boy having a 30 year old girlfriend. The 18 year old hurt her mentally and physically. The 18 year old Vincent Russo that his 30 year old girlfriend drive from her house in Chula Vista to Encinitas to give him money. Vincent Russo then forced her to drive to her parents home in Point Loma, and burglarize her own parents home. She said no because her parents were home so he tried to cover her face with her sweater and it did not work. He then raped her repeatedly. The lady got away and the boy eventually got arrested.
I think this story is crazy ! I wonder how stupid can this lady be for even being with an 18 year old and then letting him do that to her. I would of grabbed a knife and stab him just to scare him and then get away. I am pretty sure he has done things like this to her before.

In today's news I read about 200 people were arrested after a series of what appears to be political killing in Karachi. The suspects were arrested in different parts of Karachi, the biggest city in Pakistan, Zulfiqar Mirza, interior minister for Sindh province. Paramilitary forces known as rangers have been given special powers to bring calm to the city. 23 people have been killed in Karachi this week. though the state-run Pakistani news agency, the Associated Press of Pakistan, put the number at 17. Senator Zahid Hussain, central spokesman for the Awami National Party, or ANP, blamed the Muttahida Quami Movement, or MQM. He said the MQM is killing our political workers, with around half of the 23 victims being members of ANP. But Haider Abbas Rizvi, an MQM senior leader, denied the allegations and said the conflict is between ANP factions. He said only one member of MQM was killed by gunfire.

THURSDAY-- Osteoporosis is the disease of the bones. It affects many Americans everyday, and you don’t even realize you had it till it gets you. It is often referred to as the “silent thief”. It is said to cause pain, but that is just a myth. It is really how weak your bones are based on your calcium and vitamin D levels. Your bones don’t have the proper nutrients needed, thus making them more susceptible to break. If your are over the age of fifty, you are recommended to get tests done to see what your chances of developing Osteoporosis is. You can take the FRAX test or a Bone Density Test to see what your chances are of you getting this disease. The medicine used to “help” with Osteoporosis actually has more side effects then it helps. The only way to defend your bones is to diet correctly and exercise. Running and dancing are great ways to prevent you from getting Osteoporosis. I feel Osteoporosis is a horrible disease, but easily preventable. I would say for people to be aware of their body and to try and take care of it. It’s the only one you get.

Kobe Bryant had to play on his messed up knee. He managed to score 40 points through out the whole game. Pau Gasol had 21 points while Lamar Odom had added 19 points and 19 rebounds. Kobe had a good half, then topped it off with his third quarter scoring 21 points. With this 40 point game it puts Kobe up to 11th 40point game in his playoff career.

Today I read an article about a Corvette driver who was arrested after a 130 mph chase. On Monday, he led officers on a freeway chase at speeds up to 130 mph. The pursuit started in Orange County, and 3 a.m., and ended in University City about 3:25 a.m. The driver headed south on Interstate 5 then south on the 805. He stopped at La Jolla Village Drive off-ramp, where his engine gave out. I believe his techniques on trying to evade an officer is not cool. The driver should have pulled over, giving him access to his rights- whereas when he is in pursuit, some of his rights are given up. The driver may not have a valid reason for going 130 mph on the highway.

Thursday- Today I read an article about the famous artist Lindsay Lohan. It was said that this famous artist did not show up for a court hearing. The court was put to the point where she now has a warrant out for her arrest. The court was for some misdemeanor she had from a while back. The article did not state the reason why but they did. The police are searching for her and are most likely going to catch her. This article shows how even the rich people can be really irresponsible. The court had a really good story to tell all of California.
This was a good article but I think that rich people think they get off of problems easier. I hope she gets caught and does time in jail like every other pedestrian. If the court dose not do anything about this than it will be discriminating every other civilian in California.
I learned that just because some people have money they think they can get away with things.

The fines ranged from $50,000 to $75,000 for each incident, according to the CDPH. The following hospitals in San Diego County received penalties. Pomerado Hospital in Poway for an incident related to a patient in a hospital-style recliner chair that was not equipped with an alarm and had fallen over backwards. Rady Children's Hospital for administering an incorrect dosage of medication to a 3-year-old. Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla for incorrectly inserting a catheter during surgery and a second instance for failing to properly clean a piece of surgical equipment and Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside after a patient's oxygen mask ignited due to an electrical current from a surgical device and caused burns.

FRIDAY-- The Thai General was shot in the face last week. He went through pain and suffering and has sadly passed away. His death has raised a lot of controversy and violence. The Red Shirts are against the Government and the protesters being killed in all of the riots. The Army is trying to stop them from protesting. The Thai General that was shot in the face supported the Anti-Government protesters. He was actually their leader. They have set up camps for everyone to get away to. They shoot people, throw bombs, and have different techniques to get their view across. The protest is spreading and is giving them more access to get their point across. I would say for them to calm down with the protesting. Chinese diplomats are extremely strict, and have only one view. I wonder if they are becoming less communistic and are willing to accept the views of the Red Shirts.

A retaining fence off the ramp of Route 163 holds back rock debris that may spillover. Motorcyclist Joseph Carini noticed that falling rock off the ramp has reached the top of the chain linked fence, designed to keep dirt and stones from eroding hillside off the road. Carini figures the sometimes-heavy rain of the winter season was a contributing factor. The fence seems strong enough to hold back the accumulated rock, but Carini wonders how soon material may start tumbling over the top and onto the ramp, which could be dangerous. The problem needs to be fixed by the California Department of Transportation ASAP. I believe this is a very dangerous hazard. Drivers should be cautious, especially while passing this retaining fence- using certain driving techniques to navigate on the side of the road. To gain access to the CDT (California Department of Transportation) you can call a number, giving a valid statement on what needs to be fixed, and they will fix it.

Friday- Today I read an article about an officer who shot a man. The article stated that the confrontation began with two roommates physically fighting. A civilian dressed officer was first at the scene and tried to break up the fight. He then began to get into a physical combat with one of the suspects. At this point The officer pulled out a baton which was taken from him. One of the suspects then grabbed him on a choke hold and the officer got free. When the officer got free he pulled out his pistol and shot the suspect in the torso. The suspect was then pronounced dead a few hours later in the hospital.
This was one of those article that shows how dangerous cops can be. The cop said that he felt threatened so he shot the man. I think that if anybody feels threatened they can then go ahead an shoot someone else.
I learned that cops have the right to kill anyone they want no matter the situation.

When the Detroit police was able to access the home they went through carelessly and a innocent life was taken. The police have no valid reason for killing this girl and should not be let of the hook. During the raid the police set off a flash grenade and accidently shot there gun hitting a 7 year old girl on the couch. I think that the police technique for raiding a house is wrong and unjust. The family should attain justice for what the Detroit Police brought among them.

This morning I read about how the grand jury is recommending service for foster kids. Apparently there are more than a quarter of beds for foster children that San Pasqual Academy that are empty. County agencies also need to do a better job sharing information to encourage at risk children to enroll that the center. The center provides education and housing for foster children ages 12 to 18.50 of the 194 beds are usually vacant every month. The academy is located in an agricultural preserve in Escondido. The grand jury recommended that the County's Health and Human Services Agency, establish policies and procedures to share information about at risk youths and encourage them to volunteer for programs.
I think this is a good idea. There are so many homeless kids that just need help. Some kids are homeless because they don’t have parents or are just placed in difficult situations. There are so many empty warehouses that I think should dye turned into homeless shelters. I think that id warehouses are turned into homeless shelters old druggies should not be allowed in there.

Friday-
This morning I read about how a 7 year old girl was shot while sleeping on the couch. A cops gun “went off” and shot this little girl, all of this took place in Detroit. The incident occurred when some police officers were searching a duplex for a suspect in the slaying of a teenager. The 7 year olds father said that the police came into his house with a flash grenade and a bullet. The officers said that the grandmother tried to fight with them, and that’s why the gun went off. Police officers of course said that the shooting was not intentional. Aiyana Jones past away after being shot in the neck, she died at 7 year old.
I think that this story is sad, and from what I am reading it looks as if the cops do not even feel really bad, If one of the cops kids died they would know how bad it felt for this guy to loose his child at the age of 7. They should never have even brought a flash grenade.

Today I read a new article about a girl who was hospitalized because a boy beat her really bad. Josie Lou Ratley, 15, was beaten by Wayne Treacy because she talked about his deceased brother in their text message argument. She was in a coma but now she is slowly recovering in rehabilitation. She is relearnng things such as, how to count, how to recognize colors and other information. Treacy is still incarcerated.

I feel bad for the girl because she got really messed up. The way she looks is all bad. I hope she gets better as soon as possible. As for him I don't really know what to say he is crazy and I don't mess with crazy people.
