MONDAY-- Today I read about the statistics of homeless citizens. Despite the fact that there are so many homeless people in Downtown San Diego, half of them are women. They are not all on the streets because of drug use. A vast majority of them are on the streets because of losing their jobs. The community plans to open up a homeless shelter for women soon. It is said to be an estimated 31 million dollar plan. I think this is a very inspirational plan. They should make different homeless shelters and programs to help them get jobs, and rebuild the life they had before. This would be especially helpful since most of the people in the community are losing their job because of the rough times the economy is having. I think everybody should help, if they have the extra money to do so.

Monday- Two nine-month-old twin girls were in a serious condition in hospital on Monday after being mauled by a fox as they slept in their London home, according to police.

The two girls were attacked in their upstairs bedroom at a house in Hackney, east London, after the fox apparently entered the house through a door left open because of the heat while the twins' parents watched television downstairs, police said.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found two nine-month-old girls with injuries," a Metropolitan Police spokesman told CNN. "Both babies were taken to an east London hospital where their condition is described as serious but stable."
Despite foxes being domestic animals, they can still be dangerous. Looking at this dimension of London, I believe this is a very odd case.

Monday- Today I read an article about a former California highway patrol officer. The story was about the officer being charged with taking a bribe. The woman is also being charged with something similar. The officer was said to have stopped a woman for speeding. The woman then tried to bribe the officer in trading sexual favors for the ticket. When the officer then agreed they then went into a hotel and did the dirt. The court is trying to give the officer about five years. This court session is still in progress and will be heard of in a couple of weeks.
This was a weird article because I have never heard of this happening. I think that the cop should be sent to prison for a while. I think that when a cop does something bad they don’t usually get into trouble so he should.
I learned that police officers also do really bad things and usually don’t get into trouble that much.

Monday- today I read about James Richards asked his 10th-grade students to collect a penny for each Jewish life lost in the Holocaust, he wasn’t sure how they would respond. After all, 6 million were killed. I think that all of us had read that there were 6 million deaths in the Holocaust but the number on a piece of paper is easy to handle, said Richards, a humanities teacher at High Tech High School in Chula Vista. Instead, he wants his students to get a better grasp of the loss through project-based learning — a feature of the charter school that sets aside textbooks for hands-on education. The project, called “Pennies, Books and Bombs,” began shortly after Holocaust Remembrance Day in April. Collecting pennies is one way students are learning about World War IIand its victims. They have 2,000 pennies so far but want to reach the goal before they graduate in 2012. I think that this is really cool that they are doing this.

In today’s news I read about a killer whale at SeaWorld Orlando died Sunday while giving birth. The calf was still born. The father of the calf was Tilikum, the killer whale involved in death of a trainer in February. SeaWorld canceled two shows on Sunday, but all shows were expected to resume Monday. Taima, a 20-year-old killer whale, died from complications associated with the birthing process. Taima had successfully given birth to three calves previously. SeaWorld has had 26 successful births of killer whale calves in captivity, according to Dold, who said the birthing success rate is about 50 percent in the wild and 85 percent in a zoological situation. A necropsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

This morning I read a story about parents of a teenage girl who have been accused of forcing her to sleep outside their Miami home for years. Using their blue Pontiac Grand Am as a bed, this family of three spent their nights sleeping within feet of their duplex apartment which had electricity, hot and cold running water and all the DOMESTIC necessities. According to the arrest report, the suspects' daughter, 16, told investigators the family was living in these conditions for approximately 8 years. The girl's father said he and his daughter were living in these conditions since 2007 because his wife would not let them into the home because it needed to be cleaned. Members of the Special Victims Unit division for the police continue to investigate the allegations and have found "loads of evidence that is consistent with the victim's story," authorities said. I think that this story is weird and I think the parents are sick. I don’t think that it takes 8 years to clean a house, that’s disgusting. I think the husband should have taken charge of the situation, DESPITE his wife's insanity.

This morning I read about how an ex coach molested a 15 year old. Ryan Paul Carnell, 29 volunteered at Rancho Peñasquitos high school. Ryan was taken into custody Friday, while the judge awaits to. receive further information, to sentence him. Part of Ryan’s sentence includes, pleaded guilty April 30 to committing a lewd act on a child who was more than 10 years younger than he. In a separate case, he pleaded no contest to sending harmful matter ,a photo of his genitals to a minor. Ryan faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in prison on both cases. The 15 year old was a student at Westview High School. Ryan also volunteered at that school. The molesting incident did not occur on school grounds.
I think that incidents like these are going on way to often. A lot of guys are sick in the head. I think that maybe older guys are just into younger girls because they look better, and most older ladies don’t because of giving birth, and just letting themselves go. I think guys should control themselves to not put themselves in situations like these.

In today’s news I read about At least 16 teenage Afghan girls are recuperating at a hospital after they were poisoned and lost consciousness during school Tuesday. The attack is another in a string of suspected poisonings that have targeted school girls in recent months in Afghanistan. This latest case happened at the Gawharsha Begom primary school. Police had detained groundskeepers at the school and the water supply was being tested. This attack comes after at least 88 girls and teachers became ill in separate cases at three girls' schools in the Kunduz province in late April. The Taliban was suspected in those cases, authorities said at the time. Girls were not allowed to attend school during the Taliban's rule in that area. Since girls' schools began reopening after the Taliban was overthrown in late 2001, the facilities and the female students have been the victims of attacks.

Tuesday- Today I read an article about a homeless man. The article was about this homeless man who was hit by a car and died at the scene. The man was hit by a newly licensed teenager who was only sixteen years old. The man was a fifty-three year old man who was allegedly pushing a shopping cart. The boy was not cited or given a ticket but yet he was let free. The police stated that the fatality was mainly the man’s fault. The kid was scared but he did manage to get out of his vehicle and try to help out the kids. The man will probably not be missed for various reason’s.
This was a sad article but it was also pretty funny. The reason is because sometimes bums are dick’s and that’s what he deserves. I think that the kid should be sent to court because if it were someone else they would be in jail already.
I learned that when a bum is killed he you are most likely not going to be in trouble.

In today's paper I read an article the harsh oil spill. Despite the fact that the oil is affecting the nations economy, the oil is also affecting mother nature. In many different dimensions and areas of the ocean, animals are feeling the effect of the large oil spill. Now on day 50 they say it may take until fall for the underwater oil spill to be patched up, & take years for the overall clean up of the domestic features of the environment to be restored. I think that this may effect the future of the earth and survival of mankind. The animals are already in danger because of this tragedy.

Tuesday- Today I read about Police questioned nearly all of the children at an Oregon school where a missing 7-year-old child boy was last seen, authorities said Monday evening. Captain Jason Gates of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said about 90 percent of the students at Skyline Elementary School were interviewed in connection with last Friday's disappearance of Kyron Horman. In a statement released to the media, the sheriff's office said investigators were appealing to the families who have not been interviewed to call the tip line and leave their information. According to investigators, the boy's stepmother said she last the saw second-grader Friday morning while he was walking down the hallway towards his classroom. There was a science fair here at the school, Portland Schools spokesman Matt Shelby told CNN. You had a situation with lots of parents and friends coming through the school, going class to class. Kyron was here with his stepmother, seen with his stepmother, Shelby said. The science fair was held before the beginning of classes, Shelby added, so working parents could come and participate

This morning I read about the oil spill that started at the Gulf of Mexico. Dire new government estimates showed the disaster has easily passed the Exxon Valdez as the biggest oil spill in U.S history. Thursday, BP PLC said they were still working on the pumping procedure. They say the pumping is a their most important goal. Obama announced that major new restrictions on drilling projects. Obama also put pressure on the head of the federal agency that regulates the industry. Obama stated “ BP is running around doing whatever it wants and nobody is minding the store.” Obama says when dealing with the leak, BP does not possess superior technology. A top kill has never been attempted before se deep in the water.
I think that this oil spill happened because the U.S wanted to make money so badly, and could not follow the right regulations. If the U.S would have been patient, and followed regulations the oil spill would never had happened. I feel really bad because all the sea life is nor probably dead, and the oil pumping is not going to help any of the animals. I think human life and technology is really ruining nature, and animals.

Wednesday- Today I read an article about a killer whale in the Orlando SeaWorld theme park. The whale was said to have died while giving birth to her calf. The father is the whale who was involved with the death of a former scientist. The calf was still born but the mother could not make it. All the staff were sad for their loss and were also very touched. Although they were a little brightened up a bit because they have a new member to their odyssey. The mother was twenty years old and died of complications while giving birth. The whale was not able to give birth to the calf naturally so they had to help.
This was a cool article because not every day you hear about a killer whale being born. The article also stated that the father was the one who killed the worker last year. I think that they should release the father back into the wild just in case.
I learned that even animals have birth complications and can also die.

Wednesday- Today I read about a woman that killed four people in a crash a while back. This lady is going to go on trial for the crash that happened December 14 2007. I think that this girl needs a little prison time to get a wake up call. I also read about when Wayne Williams went on trial in two deaths that became known as the Atlanta child murders, DNA testing was not yet a staple of courtroom science. Now it is. And new results have implicated Williams in the death of at least one 11-year-old victim. When Patrick Baltazar's body was found dumped down a wooded slope behind an office park on February 13, 1981, a forensic scientist discovered two human scalp hairs inside the boy's shirt. At trial, scientists from both the FBI and Royal Canadian Mounted Police would testify that, under a microscope, the hairs were consistent with those of Wayne Williams. But that was only a matter of judgment, not exact science. In 2007, defense lawyers for Williams raised the question of DNA testing on dog hairs which were on bodies of many of the 27 boys and young men found dead during the two-year murder spree.

This morning I read about how the long term of a drug called Avastin may help fight off cancer. Avastin can help keep ovarian cancer in its place. The only way that Avastin can help keep ovarian cancer under control, is only if the drug has been taken for a long time. Another study showed that men with high risk prostate cancer live longer if they were treated with radiation, and took hormone blocking drugs. Avastin slows the development of blood vessels that nourish tumors and is a very popular drug to help treat cancer. Avastin is already approved for treating colorectal breast, lung, kidney, and breast cancer. Those who were treated with Avastin treatment, it took about 14.1 months for the cancer to start worsening, compared to 10.3 months who did not take Avastin.
I hope that with all the money that doctors, scientist receive for trying to cure cancer works out. They are receiving so much money every year to buy technology, to find a cure for cancer, and I am surprised it is taking them this long to find a cure. I think that if they can send people to the moon, they can definitely find a cure for cancer. I hope that this is a cure because cancer does run in my family.

violet Monday- The Coast Guard commander in charge of the federal response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico warned that even if the flow of crude oil is stopped by summer, it could take well into autumn to deal with the slick spreading across the gulf. 3 vents on the capping oil device are open, spilling more than 10,000 barrels a day. The oil is spreading all the way to the coast of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The BP does not have adequate equipment to process it all. This oil spill could kill many domestic animals in the ocean. Despite the Coast Guard's efforts, effects of slick is to last long after the well is shut. The well is made up of many dimensions, all of which oil is spilling out from.

In today's news I read about a two month long sweep that targeted drug dealers arrested 43 on Sunday. This operation started on April focused on downtown neighborhoods which includes the C Street Corridor, East Village, Horton Plaza and Core-Columbia. San Diego Police arrested individuals on felonies charges including cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana. They later were indicted by the grand jury. Some of them were suspects and were affiliated with street gangs, 14 of them were in parole and 10 were in probation.

Thursday- Today I read an article about a police officer’s death. The death was caused by a hit and run in New Milford. The officer was said to be cycling to work when he was hit. The officer was taken to the hospital were he then died. The motorist has been identified and police are on the search for the vehicle. There were a few witnesses so there was a good description of the vehicle. The victim had been in the force for about sixteen years and his wife and kids were devastated. There was a big ceremony in memory of the officer but the suspect is still on the loose.
The article was good because I really don’t see police officers on bikes and the ones that there are actually had one killed. I think that when the suspect is found they should give him a few years. Most likely he will be getting life in prison though.
I learned that there are cops that die too but they are on the news only not normal people.

Thursday- Today I read about an emotional reunion for a local family on Tuesday night after their grandson was part of a major airline mix-up. It was just weird. I was like, I’m supposed to be at Boston not Cleveland. It was just weird, 9-year-old Kieren Kershaw. Kieren was flying alone on a Delta Airlines flight from Spokane to Boston to visit his grandparents, and was due to arrive in Boston at 5 p.m. He had a layover in Minneapolis and that’s where he said someone made a mistake, by switching his paperwork with a girl’s paperwork. That girl was also traveling alone. We’re paying them to check on him and be with him. They just threw him in the plane like anybody else, they didn’t even ask his name to match the paperwork, said the boy’s grandfather, Larry Kershaw. When he was stuck in Cleveland, Delta had to book Kieren on a different airline just to get him to his original destination in Boston. Not only that, there’s another child, a little girl, that came to Boston. We don’t even know who she was. So you mean to tell me you mixed up a boy and a girl and the paperwork. The airline did apologize to the kid and his family.

THURSADAY-- Make-A-Wish foundation gives young cancer patients the opportunity to choose anything they can possibly dream of as their one wish. 14-year-old, Darren Shanks chose a new set of uniforms and equipment for his high school football team. In the 25 years Make-A-Wish has only had one other person ask for something that wasn’t for themselves. Darren’s family and friends saw this as normal, yet the community saw him as an amazing young man. He is known to be giving and helpful to just about everybody. Despite the face that Darren has been going through rigorous chemotherapy, he was at Patrick Henry High School to present the new jerseys. As of now his cancer is to be known as terminated, and only has a few more treatments left. Everybody in the community views him as and inspiration, and hopes more people would be as giving and selfless as he is. I would hope that people learn to be as nice as this young man is. After time and much recreational therapy I am sure he will be able to achieve his dream in returning to being a part of his high school football team. People need to learn from others, and realize that even if you are in a bad situation, it doesn’t always have to be about yourself.

Thursday- he public plans to light the San Diego Coronado Bridge to show it off as public art. There are three competing designs, all of which would use wind turbines for energy. The preliminary cost of the lighting project is estimated at up to $5 million. Port officials say they will fund it through private resources, such as grants and fundraising. One design would change colors and appear to move along the outside outer edge of the bridge. Another design would focus on the bay’s span and change colors, expressing the seasons or days of the week. Despite the high cost, the results may bring more tourists and locals to the bridge. There are many different dimensions of the bridge, and lighting it up in my opinion, would be cool. The bridge is located near domestic homes.

In today's news I read about a South Korean rocket apparently blew up just over two minutes after launch. The Naro-1 space rocket apparently exploded 137 seconds after it lifted off from a space center on the country's south coast. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute earlier said it lost contact with the rocket eight minutes after liftoff. South Korea is talking to the Russians who made the first-stage rocket in an effort to determine why it exploded. South Korea made the second-stage rocket and the satellite, according to Yonhap. Thursday's launch at the Naro Space Center, 465 kilometers (about 300 miles) south of Seoul, was the country's second from its own soil. The launch was initially scheduled for Wednesday, but was scrapped after the firefighting equipment in the rocket malfunctioned.

This morning I read an article about a gas line blast in Cleburne Texas on Monday. A large natural gas line erupted after workers accidentally hit the line, sending a massive fireball into the air and leaving one worker missing hours after the blast. Searchers were scouring the charred area looking for the missing person, DESPITE thirteen other workers who were accounted for. The missing worker had just gotten down from a machine drilling utility pole holes when the line exploded. Other workers lost sight of him in the intense smoke. Several workers drove themselves to the hospital before emergency crews arrived, so there is a possibility that he left the scene on his own. I think that this story is sad and I hope that the man is safe and not hurt. I also think that the workers should have been more careful so these kind of things wont happen.

This morning I read about a student from Patrick Henry Highshool, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Darren Shanks who is 14 was part of a Make A Wish Foundation. The Foundation could have granted Darren a trip to Disneyland, or meet a celebrity, but Darren preferred to get his football team new team uniforms. The new uniforms replaced old uniforms that are from the 80’s. Darren’s teammates also offered their support by shaving their heads when Darren lost his hair to chemotherapy. Darren was at home for four months on a medical leave. He plans to return to school and hopes to play for the team again. Darren got another wish also, he wished for season tickets for the San Diego Chargers. The team surprised Darren by sending the Charger girls to the school assembly. The girls handed out a bad full of t shirts, hats, and VIP tickets to the teams home opener. Darren is now cancer dead, he begins a five day chemotherapy session, and this is one of the four treatments he needs to be declared in remission.
I think this story is very nice. I used to go to Patrick Henry, so I was surprised that thy were on the news. I hope Darren never has cancer again.

Friday- Today I read an article about a suicide in National City. There were two people dead in their apartment on the 900 block of fifth street. The whole block was on lock down after police were called by a neighbor for hearing gun shots. The police then called in special agents for the situation. The SWAT then were also called in and rushed into the house. They then found two bodies lying there shot to death. The bodies were said to have been a suicidal situation. There was a gun found next to the bodies and investigators are still looking in on it.
This was a sad story because two people around were I live died. I think that they didn’t kill themselves. There was someone who probably killed them and actually made it seem as a suicide.
I learned that there is finally one murder in National City after so many years.

friday- Van der Sloot may be taken to the crime scene where he killed 21 year-old business student in his Lima hotel room. The press said police have until the weekend to file criminal charges against van der Sloot in the May 30 killing of Stephanie Flores. The beating death occurred exactly five years after American teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba. It wasn’t clear whether van der Sloot has obtained private counsel, and there was no immediate word from either him or his family about the reported confession. Perhaps van der Sloot was involved in domestic violence in his past. There are many dimensions to look at when filing criminal charges against a murderer. Despite van der Sloot’s past murder case, he is not detained, which can be dangerous.

FRIDAY-- there will be a major cut in the school budget. The new 48.3 million dollar cut is dais to be finalized sometime next week. There will only be a little over 10 million dollars left in the school budget after these cuts take effect. They are said t be cutting 300,000 from magnet cuts and over one million from adult schooling. They are also letting some of the school educators loose during this time. Salaries will also be affected with this budget cut. One other proposal for the cuts is to close down school libraries. I think this is ridiculous , and should not happen. I feel that it is going to end up happening anyways. Librarians are confused about this decision also. I don’t feel the school board is making the best decisions right now. They need to rationalize and think about the end product of cutting school libraries from schools. They shouldn’t just think about saving money. Libraries are important to education.

During today’s paper I read an article about the death of a 17 year old girl. A woman named Tiffany St. Ives hit young Marlene and quickly fled the scene. Marlene was running across the street when St. Ives struck her with her car. She drug her on the hood of the car for about 300 feet. Despite the fact that it was her fault she still fled the scene of the crime. Now with the 17 year old girl dead she has to face the consequences in many different dimensions. The mother of Marlene was upset and felt like she didn’t receive domestic justice in court. I think this woman was charged with the right amount of time. I wasn’t her fault but she shouldn’t of left.

Friday- Today I read about Lady Gaga didn't make it down to the field during the New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres baseball game yesterday afternoon, but she certainly caused a foul play. The international superstar didn't take kindly to the prime seats she was given at Citi Field right behind home plate, and was caught on camera flipping off any onlookers. While it's unclear what caused her to making the obscene gesture, FoxSports reports that Mets fans were booing the singer, while others have speculated she was angered because she was right behind a slew of photographers who were snapping photos of her hanging out with friends and enjoying a beer. I think that the onlookers need to give her some space but just because she is a singer she does need her own space so that she can have a good time like the rest of the people.

This morning I read about a new federal study found that many centers have serious infection control. The clinics that have the problems are clinic in where patients get foot operations, pain injections and other medical procedures. The people that work there do not wash their hands they wear gloves and clean blood glucose meters were among the reported breaches. Clinics reuse devices meant fro one person, or they dipped into single does medicine vials for more than one patient. The study began after a hepatitis C outbreak in Las Vegas, that was believed to be caused by unsafe injection practices, at two clinic that are now closed. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement that her department is expanding its hospital infection control action plan to include ambulatory surgical centers for dialysis centers.
I think that the places that should definitely not have any infection problems are clinics. People go there, trusting the people that help them, and by what the clinics are doing, infections can be spread, probably even viral infections. The patients might be even in worse health conditions than what they came in as.

In today's news I read about a police who was investigating a possible murder suicide on Tuesday at a residence in National City. Officers were called to a grandmas house on Fifth Street near I Avenue after someone reported that they heard gun shots like around 1 p.m. Because of the possibility of an active shooter, SWAT officers surrounded the home and tried to contact the resident from a safe position. Like about two hours with no response, officer had to forced their way in through the front door and they found two bodies one of them was a woman and the other one was a man. The police were working on identifying the victims. And like about 15 apartments and five houses were evacuated during all this incident. The next day the yellow tape was still remained across the front and side of the small green house. Some neighbors at a near apartment building across the street said that they were not home when the incident occurred and did not know who lived there.

This morning I read a story about three boys who tried to break into a home in Antioch on Tuesday. Three teenage boys broke into the rear window of a one-story home where a small marijuana growing operation was located. Commotion ensued, followed by gunshots that killed a 15-year-old boy and injured two homeowners, a 35-year-old man and a woman in her 20s. Two toddlers inside the home were unharmed. When officers arrived, they found the injured man detaining a 17-year-old suspect at gunpoint. He was later taken into custody for questioning. The two homeowners were airlifted to a hospital where both were listed in critical condition. Police said a small marijuana growing operation located in two bedrooms was the likely reason for the home invasion. Police do not know if the victims and the suspects knew each other, and he didn’t know if the growing operation was legal. I think it is kind of obvious that the suspects knew the victims if the reason they broke in was the pot. I think these kids are really stupid for trying to break into someone's house, especially if the people are home.

Today I read about the NBA Finals between the L.A. Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Lakers took the first game the celtics took the second then the lakers took the third and the forth back to the celtics. Now the series is tied at two games a piece. The Lakers Kobe Bryant is a key player to the series also with the help of center Pau Gasol stepping up the series could go for the lakers this time unlike the last time the two teams met.
