In today's news according to the signonsandiego.com I read about the two governments American and Mexican trying to stop the violence now on both sides of the border includes drug trafficking, illegal weapons sales and clogged border crossings in hopes of influencing government policy. The group intends to use its connections and clout to gain the ear of both the Obama and Calderón administrations on issues vital to the border region. The plan is to come out with recommendations by this fall that would be circulated in Mexico City, Washington and the border region. The criminals are affecting both governments in the north and south of the border. Another issue the group will address is the long northbound border wait resulting from increased U.S. security measures after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Drug and weapons trafficking will be the key topics today when members meet at the University of San Diego. The group will focus on immigration and infrastructure during a meeting in Monterrey, Mexico, in April. In June, members will examine issues relating to public health and the environment in Tempe, Ariz.
Today on Cnn I read about an abduction of a five year old girl. The girl was notice abducted around three in the morning but her brother was still there. Not only was the child found missing but the back door was wide open. The do not believe the child just woke up and wandered outside. The owner of the trailer which was the father said he rarely ever used the back door and had no idea why it was wide open. Both the mother and father passed the lie detector test. I think that who ever can kidnap a child is sick minded. This is sad for the family, the feeling of losing a child is something I do not wish any body to go through. Hopefully the child will be safe and returned to the family.
In today’s paper I read about the 50 people that were killed in a plane crash near Buffalo. The plane was from Continental Airlines and it crashed into a house. It happened on a late Thursday and all the 49 people in the plane died plus the man in the house where the plane crashed. There was also 2 other women in the house but they survived and were treated for minor injuries. Philip Trenary, CEO of Colgan Air quoted, “This is easily the saddest day in the history of our airline.” The plane was coming from Newark, New Jersey to Buffalo. It went down around 10:20 pm, 7 miles away from the Buffalo airport. Friday morning the planes voice and cockpit data recorders were found and weren’t wrecked. They were taken to Washington, D.C., for analysis. While that happened firefighters tried to turn off the fires where the plane crashed and they said the fire was probably going to be gone by that Friday afternoon.
Today in the news I read that scientist have finally mapped the rhino virus also known as the common cold. This virus plagues billions a year an has billions spent of fighting it. Scientist say that in the coming years they hope to be able to cure the disease or eradicate it. Also in political news Obama pushes his new stimulus plan to be passed before the nation slips further into peril. The layoffs have left many American out of work. These layoffs have taken the unemployment rate to 8%. This is not large but when your talking about millions of people.
After viewing many stories on the CNN website today, there were a few that really grabbed my attention. One involved a man getting hit by two cars in Queens, New York. The pedestrian was struck by two cars, and was dragged 17 miles by the second car. Police found the dead mangled body in Brooklyn a short time after. In another reading, an NIU shooter, who killed five people at the university, was discovered to have idolized a sadistic killer from a popular horror flick, as well Adolf Hitler and Ted Bundy. Steven Kazmierczak was known as “strange Steve” to many of his roommates. Kazmierczak had been hospitalized through out childhood for many suicide attempts, and had received psychiatric counseling as well. After the killing of five, and the wounding of eighteen others, Steve Kazmierczak shot and killed himself in a crazy rage.
Deadly Crash on I-8 Takes Two Lives
In today’s news, a crash on the I-8 took two lives Thursday night. CHP Public Information Officer Brian Pennings said the accident was the result of an improper traffic manuever. The white Silverado was going east when a truck went over the center divider and hit the white truck. Witnesses say that a small car cut off the other truck and caused the accident. The other small car ran after seeing the truck lost control and crashed.
What I think that happened is that whoever was driving the small car, was under the influence. Whoever he was, he or she might have gotten away with it. It’s mest up that the driver of the white Silverado died on impact of the crash. He was driving home when it all happened. This is just a reminder of not to drink and drive.
Today I read about how Chene Thompson help a homeless woman and her son by lending them her house in Florida. The homeless woman named Henrietta Hughes was truly glad that they helped her. Thompson said that they cant stay in her house that they don’t use until they get back on their feet. The woman then said that kindness will help the economy. A local housing authority met with Hughes to help her get a subsided housing unit with a short waiting time. On Thursday, Hughes urged Congress to approve legislation to deal with the housing crisis. She said if that would pass, that would help many other- hundreds and thousands of – low income persons receiving housing.
