Today in The Union Tribune I read about a gang member who got two life terms for pair of murders. A documented gang member convicted of fatally shooting two rivals in Southeast, San Diego two years ago. He was sentenced yesterday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Deshawn Broadnax, 22, was found guilty in December of two counts of first-degree murder and other charges . Him and another man which was the driver, were arrested and charged with man slaughter. Both Brandon Hammond and Marcelles McElvaine, both 19 were the victims that were shot on December 6, 2006, in a cul-de-sac in Bay Terraces. Supposely theyw ere not gang members. The killings were a retalition for a killing that happen the day before. Ahmad Lewis was gunned down December 5, in Valencia Park. The murders on December 6, was in a rival gang territory and was near the Meadow Brook Apartments which is a gang stronghold. The killer tricked the two teens into lighting a cigarette for him then shot both of them. The killer got life in prison without possibility of parole. The co-defendant got sentenced to 26 years and four months in prison.

Today in the news Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went to North Korea today to hold talks about the region. The Secretary told North Korea that their relationship with the U.S. wouldn’t improve if they kept threatening South Korea. Also in world news President Barak Obama went to our Northern neighbors today to discus military, trade, and environment. The American Canadian relationship has been good since the two countries were established. In national news the New York times published a racist political cartoon. This cartoon depicted a dead monkey shot by two white police officers with a caption saying now who is going to write our stimulus bill. I think this is very offensive. I think the person should be fired and maybe beat a little bit.

Today I read about a killer sentenced. A gang member who fatally shot two teenagers in southeastern San Diego is given life in prison without the possibility of parole. A documented gang member convicted of fatally shooting two teenagers in southeastern San Diego two years ago was sentenced yesterday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Deshawn Broadnax, 22, was found guilty in December of two counts of first-degree murder and other charges. Its was Broadnax and another man, identified as the driver, were arrested and later indicted by a grand jury in the deaths of Brandon Hammond and Marcelles McElvaine, both 19. They were shot Dec. 6,2006 in a cul-de-sac in Bay Terraces. The victims were not gang members. During a hearing in San Diego, Judge John Thompson, denied a motion for a new trial, saying the jury heard overwhelming evidence that Broadnax fired the fatal shots. Taking each crime separately, the judge sentence Broadnax to two terms of life without parole and an additional 57 years to life. The driver, Anthony Torian, testified that Broadnax approached him the night of the murders, showed him a gun and asked for a ride to the Meadowbrook complex. Torian, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts of voluntary manslaughter and could be sentenced next month to up to 26 years and four months in prison.

In the San Diego Union Tribune I read about the stupid things the Mexican government says. They believe the war against the drug gangs south of the border is advancing just because they have seized 200 weapons and five tons of drugs in two months and a half. Those five tons were made up in a couple weeks and the weapons are always available. As for the men the have put in detention centers, in México there will always be young people who are willing to do anything for money. After the government wipes out the biggest drug gang, in a couple months drugs will start passing though the border in surplus once again. The government thinks the civilians will open their mouths and warn about suspicious behavior. The civilians are either terrorized to say anything or paid off. They think they are doing a good job but the cities in México are still one of the most dangerous to walk on. The U. S. refuses to let in immigrants trying to make money the right way so they turn to the only other method to feed their families, turning to the drug world.

In today’s paper I read about Phil Spector, and how he was charged with second degree murder. Spector’s first trial ended in a mistrial in September 2007 after the deadlock. Attorneys say the current trial could be wrapped up as soon as march. In another story a shoe-hurling journalist expresses his motives as his trial begins. The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at president George W. Bush did not apologize; instead telling the judges that he wanted to hit back at the humiliation Iraq has suffered at U.S. hands. In another column; Theatre directors and students at more than 40 high schools across the country have selected a new show for their big springtime musical this year: “Rent: School Edition.” However the play’s relations with drug use, HIV, and homosexuality was not satisfactory with a few schools. AT least three of the planned high school productions have been canceled.

In today’s paper I read about how the Mexican General sees progress in the drug wars. The Mexican military has proceeded in scoring important victories against criminal gangs operating in Baja California even with the method detention of 109 suspects, the seizure of more than 200 weapons and the confiscation of more than five tons of drugs since Jan. 1. Key roles being played both by local and political leaders was recognized by Gen. Alfonso Duarte Mugica, who is in charge of military forces in the state. The Mexican President has assigned the military a leading role in fighting drug-trafficking groups across Mexico.

Man sought in slaying nabbed at border crossing….
What I read in today’s Union Tribune newspaper for February 16, 2009 was about a man who was known as wanted for a murder case was arrested. His case was suppose to air on the TV show America’s Most Wanted. The man, Jeffrey Berrouet was arrested at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Saturday at 10:15 pm. He was suspected of robbery, kidnapping, torture, and slaying in June 2008. Berrouet murdered a man named Robert Mastrangelo, 24 described as San Bernardino rapper. As stated by the agents, Berrouet showed a California’s driver license and declared he was an American citizen. A check on his identity showed that there was a warrant for Berrouet stating that he was declared as being dangerous and armed. The TV show America’s Most Wanted for the case of Berrouet was cancelled after he was arrested, because there was no reason for them to air his case, because they already found and most important of all he was arrested. My opinion of this article was that the man was stupid for going to the border, because The United States official would find out about his case when they look his identity. It’s a good thing that he was arrested since he killed a man who was innocent.

17 year old pleads guilty in rape women, 47
What I read in today Union Tribune newspaper for February 20, 2009 was about a 17 year old man who was accused of raping a 47 year old woman. Chaderick Robertson went to a preliminary hearing at the Superior Court. According to prosecutor Patrick Espinoza, Robertson admitted to using a knife during the burglary and attacked. His hearing was scheduled for May 8 and he could be charged to 25 years or to life in prison. The reason for his time to be in jail was because he attacked a woman while she was sleeping in her home. Not only did he attacked her, but he also stole the money that was in her purse, and choked her until she was left unconscious. After the woman woke up from being conscious she found the man raped her. Robertson demanded the woman to clean up any evidence that the attack has ever existed by taking a shower and using bleach. The had been in her home for more an hour and he even smoked a cigarette while he was in there. Unfortunately the police found the filter of the cigarette Robertson smoked. He was then arrested a few days after the attack occurred.
