Today In the Union Tribune about how the Los Angeles Dodgers made a fourth bid for Manny Ramirez this time offering the enigmatic slugger a $25 million, one-year contract with a $20 million player option for 2010. The player option came at the request of Ramirez’s agent of Ramirez’s agent, Scott Boras, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations who requested anonymity because talks are ongoing. Personally I do not care if they get Manny Ramirez on their time because I am a San Diego Padre fan and I dislike the Dodgers. Getting a player on your team is a long process because you have to make an offer then wait for him to respond to the offer. I assume that he will take the Dodgers offer of $25 million.

Today I read about several charges tossed in abduction. A judge dismissed all charges against one of three people charged with kidnapping and beating a 76-year-old lady. Nelson and Osborne must stand trial in connection to the kidnapping in Dec. 8. They will not faced charges of torture and attempted murder, which can carry a possible life sentence in prison. The process that the judge use was pretty good because he said there was not enough evidence to charged them with that. Antoinette Baker, 19, was freed of all charges because there was no evidence presented during a three-day preliminary hearing that she actually joined in the abduction and beating of Natalie “ Sandy” Herbst-Vinge. There’s and outrage in the whole San Diego community about letting Baker loose.

In today’s paper a judge dismissed all charges against one of the three people charged with kidnapping and beating a 76-year-old Mount Helix woman and dismissed the most serious charges on the two others. Also, in another story a major crackdown on Mexican cartels resulted in over 750 arrests. The process of the arrests happened over night, with the DEA capturing all of these believed members of the Sinaloa Cartel. Officials also seized over $59.1 million in cash, more than 13 tons of cocaine, 8 tons of marijuana, more than half-ton of methamphetamine and lesser amounts of other illicit drugs. In other news, apple director Steve Jobs is expected to return in June. Jobs, who turned 54 on Tuesday, is a survivor of pancreatic cancer has made it known that he had a treatable hormone imbalance and would continue to run apple. In addition, Tiger Woods has returned from a knee surgery after eight months of lay off. It was as though he was never gone. Woods birdied the first hole from 4 feet, earned a conceded eagle on the second, and though he wasn’t at his best with the irons or the putter, the world’s top player won the tournament with relative ease.

In today’s paper I had read that a campo women was killed and her husband was injured yesterday after there blue Honda Civic was sent tumbling down and over an embankment off interstate 8. how did this happen? This incident happened around 2pm yesterday. A 2007 2 door Pontiac that was driven by a 50 year old San Diego woman was coasting in the fast lane when she had started to change lanes and I assume not knowing that there was a person in the lane over next to hers. I assume that the people in the civic didn’t respond fast enough to get out of the way or to even honk at the red Pontiac. The civic had rolled and the driver was thrown out. Her husband in front seat remained in the car and suffered moderate injuries. The lady in the red Pontiac was not injured. What this is saying is wear your seat belt or you’ll be thrown out of blue civic and go tumbling over into a embankment. BUCKLE UP.

According to the DEA the drugs had been entering though the Calexico and the Andrade port of entries. The drugs from México had been nationally spread to small cities in the states. The inland empire in California was a place where many arrest were made due to spreading the drugs out from that point.

In today’s news paper article I read about the rapid melting of Antarctic glaciers that are raising the sea levels the glaciers are melting 45% more faster than what researchers expected. This accelerating of the ice bergs could cause sea levels to climb up to three to five feet. Researchers send a warning to the senate about the rising temperatures in the Antarctic. In about six more years at current rates of carbon dioxide pollution before it is locked into a future of severe global warming. The Antarctic was never expected to make such a change so to many people it came as a surprise. The biggest of the western glaciers, the pine island glacier is moving 40% faster than it was back in the 1970’s.

What I read in today’s Union Tribune newspaper for February 26, 2009 was about a student at Morse High School who improved in basketball after she changed her lifestyle. Abigail Leaupepe- Tele loves basketball. As quoted in the newspaper by Abigail, “Basketball is my passion.” The PROCESS of losing weight is hard but at the end its all worth it. There are many benefits in changing your bad lifestyle into a healthy one. According to Abigail she lost approximately 15 pounds. She all did it for basketball. She stopped eating her favorite food such as French fries and hot cheetoes and switched to healthy foods. If she continued to eat fast food, she could face the consequences of not playing basketball, not only that but her health. According to the interview, Abigail RESPONDS to the interviewer, “ I really love French fries, but I know their bad for me.” I ASSUME that I should change my lifestyle too since I'm overweight for my height. It’s a good thing that Abigail lost weight or else she could suffer on the long run.
