Today in The Union Tribune I read about The chief constable for Britain's Greater Manchester Police indicated Thursday there would have been the potential for terrorist acts this weekend if police had not made a dozen arrests. Bob Quick was photographed arriving at Downing Street holding a document revealing details of the raid. "We would urge the public to be vigilant ... and contact the terrorist hotline" if they see something suspicious, Chief Constable Peter Fahy said at a news conference Thursday. Britain's chief terrorism officer resigned from the police force Thursday, a day after he accidentally exposed a sensitive document about the investigation. Police rushed to make arrests after two news photographers at the prime minister's residence captured Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick carrying a document containing the names of those to be arrested.

In today’s paper, I read a sad story about how an Angel’s rookie died in a crash hours after his season debut. Outside of Angel’s stadium flowers, pennants and the team’s signature Rally Monkey dolls were spread all around, along with an Adherent jersey. Nick Adenhart, 22, was believed to be killed as a result of the other driver’s drunk driving. In another story, FBI and Navy have begun PERSUADING Somali pirates to come to an agreement for the release of a hostage American sea captain. The United States brought in FBI hostage negotiators to work with the military in trying to secure the release of Captain Richard Phillips of Underhill, Vermont. The pirates are in in talks with the Navy about resolving the situation peacefully. In another stories, judges are CRITIQUEING weather or not to consider releasing Matthew Hedge, a convicted sex-offender, near a state prison. Of the five sexually violent predators under supervision in San Diego County since 2005, four have been sent back to mental hospitals for further treatment. Although this statistic may suggest that the conditional release program for sex-offenders is not working, Nancy Kincaid, a spokeswoman on the subject, believes the opposite. She thinks that, in CONTRAST to what people may think, that the system is making progress. “They will be in treatment for the rest of their lives,” she said. “This is their opportunity to prove that they can work and reintegrate back into the community.” In another story, a marine was acquitted of killing a Iraqi. The eight jurors on the case cleared Sergeant. Ryan Weemer of the charges against him-unpremeditated murder and dereliction of duty. When the words “not guilty were read” the marine’s family and children stood up and embraced each other.
