Today in the Union Tribune I read about Qualcomm and rival chip make Broadcom said last night that they have agreed to cease-fire after four years of patient litigation and other legal disputes. Under the settlement, Qualcomm will pay Irvine-based Broadcom $891 million over four years. But Broadcom will not be able to give its customers free access to Qualcomm’s cell phone technology, something many industry analysts said was at the heart of the global battle. That means a phone manufacturer that buys a broadcom chip will have to pay Qualcomm a licensing fee for each phone it makes
In today’s newspaper I read about the Mexicans not able to stop the drug war in Mexico without an external help. The united states has promised to help Mexico fight the drug war, which is only fair according to the paper because Americans are the buyers of the drugs coming from Mexico. They also have to help themselves by reforming their institutions. According to the papers Mexico needs to do a better job of training its law enforcement officers to deal with society that is becoming more violent all the time. It is fact that Mexican cartel members are more trained as foot soldiers that the Mexican police or even military. So the enforcement is not just outnumbered by arms but by man power as well. To level out things the United states has agreed to send 300 former U.S. Law enforcers to Mexico later this year where they will train thousands of Mexican police investigators. Mexico will select 9,000 investigators (all the straight cops) for intense training in secret locations around Mexico. I think this is dumb because we are just training more dirty ass cops to be as badass as our military. Then hw are we going to stop them.
Today I read about the outbreak of swine flu throughout the world. The virus is said to be the latest epidemic and has had over 2000 cases reported. The Virus has arrived in Europe and is said to have originated from the U.S. or Mexico. The virus has sparked a state of emergency and the governments have urged people to stop traveling internationally. The U.S. government is thinking of shutting down public transpiration. All flights to Mexico have been canceled and people traveling into the U.S. are being denied access. Israel, New Zealand and Spain are investigating unconfirmed cases of swine flu. I think that this is a very dangerous and I hope I don’t get the virus.
In today’s paper I read about how there is a THEORY that the swine flu could become an epidemic of worldly proportions. So far only SECTIONS of the United States have seen serious symptoms of the deadly virus. A panel experts brought together by the WHO to monitor the outbreak declined to raise the organization’s pandemic-alert status, citing the need for more information. Government officials in Mexico said last night that previously unseen H1N1 swine influenza had killed up to 81 people and potentially infected more than 1,300 across the country since April 13. In another story, Mexican soldiers discovered $1 million in drugs. The illegal drugs were seized from a van in a Westside neighborhood Friday afternoon. Although the substances were quite SIMILAR their quantities were of dramatic difference. The find included 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 6 kilograms of cocaine and 4 kilograms of marijuana. An anonymous citizen called a tip line to say that someone was selling drugs. When soldiers arrived, they found drugs inside a Chevrolet van, but no one was nearby. In addition, soldiers also seized a .38-caliber revolver, ammunition, six radios and four cellular phones. The seizure is another big hit in the never-ending war against drugs.
