In the San Diego Union Tribune I read about the man who stabbed a tourist. The judge has ordered the man to be held without bail. The reason for the attack is still unknown. The fatal stabbing happened outside a shopping center in Oceanside. The victim was Katherine Parker 54 of Lincoln a city northeast of Sacramento. He is being held at vista county Jail. He stabbed her with a large kitchen knife after she walked out of a hallmark store about four p.m. Friday. Police do not believe robbery was the reason for the attack. The man faces life in prison if convicted. He already has a record of robbery in the Los Angeles county in 1991. also pleaded guilty to attempted robbery in 2005. he has many orange county crimes including DUI, public intoxication , battery on an officer, and failing to register as a sex offender.
Today I read about the suspect of stabbing a tourist gets no bail. A man accused of killing a tourist in an apparently random attack at an Oceanside shopping center will be held without bail, the judge ordered yesterday. Eric Russell Andreasen, 37, of Oceanside pleaded not guilty to murder in the slaying of Katherine Parker, 54, of Lincoln, a city northeast of Sacramento. Authorities say Andreasen stabbed Parker to death with a large kitchen knife as she left a Hallmark store in El Camino North Shopping Center in Vista Way shortly after 4pm Friday. Police said Parker had been visiting the area with her husband, who wasn’t with her at the time of the attack. Police said robbery apparently was not the motive for the attack. A witness who was working nearby Friday afternoon said she heard several people screaming and someone laying on their horn, the witness said she ran outside to the parking lot and saw a woman lying on the ground and then police arresting a man without incident. Andreasen faces life in prison if convicted. Court records show he has a prior strike under California’s three-strikes law for a 1991 conviction in Los Angeles County for robbery.
In today’s reading, Obama CONTRASTED himself with the new image of the United States. Obama made an unannounced stop in Baghdad, where he reiterated his pledge to end a war he opposed from the start. He stated that it was time for the Iraqis to take responsibility for their country and for their sovereignty. Later, in a CRITIQUE of Iraqi leaders, Obama hinted that they should unite the country’s deeply divided ethnic and sectarian factions and implement them into government and security forces. In another story, Vermont was PERSUADED into the legalization of same-sex marriage. This step makes Vermont the first state to allow same-sex marriage through legislative action instead of a court ruling. Gay rights groups and their opposition both view this step as a base for the legalization of gay marriage in many more states. A domino may occur due to this single but significant action. In another story, a patient in need of a liver transplant made it to the hospital after snow was plowed to clear the way. Forbes was recovering yesterday after undergoing transplant surgery Sunday at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. The WYDOT workers were praised as heroes after performing the miracle. In another story, Eric Russell Andreasen is being held without bail after he committed a random murder on a tourist. Andreasen is said to have fatally stabbed a woman after she was exiting a hallmark store. According to Orange County records, Andreasen pleaded not guilty to several crimes between 1999 and 2003, including a DUI, public intoxication, battery on a police officer, and failing to register as a sex offender. If convicted he faces life in prison without parole. He has pleaded not guilty.
Today in the Union tribune i read about the Korean response to the U.N. North Korea has said that it will take strong steps if the U.N. takes any steps to punish the nations rocket launch. I also read about a Pakistani missile strike that was supposedly a U.S. missile. The missile killed three Taliban militants and four others. The Missile also destroyed two local shops. The Pakistani people say that they do not respect the U.S. and critique their military strategy. The Pakistani Officials contrast this statement because they have yet made a statement on this issue. I also read about the California Rep trying to persuade officials to end the embargo on Cuba.
Today in the News I read about world issues. In the Union tribune the story that caught my eye the most was the North Korean reaction. North Korea warned the U.N. security council today that it would take swift and strong steps if the U.N. took action in response to the rocket launch. The deputy Ambassador said “if the Security council thy take any kind of steps whatever well consider this as encroachment on our sovereignty and the nest option will be ours.” “Necessary and strong steps will follow that.” In other world news I read about a Pakistani missile strike that supposedly came from a U.S. drone. The missile attack killed three Taliban militants and wounded four others. This is the 12th missile strike in the tribal region of Pakistan since 2008. Witness say the militants saw the drone before the missile struck and fired at it only to be killed. The missile strike destroyed a shop.
Today I read about a 82-year-old woman suffered from heart disease and severe arthritis. She was in so much pain that she stopped eating and taking medication, Street says. She eventually confined herself to her bedroom, where she lingered for 90 days before dying. "The woman was in constant pain. It was hard to watch," Street says. "I kept asking, 'Why is it this way?' My faith took a beating. "A group of mothers helped Street recharge and reconnect. Street, a Roman Catholic, started attending the St. Augustine parish in Andover, Massachusetts, when she heard of a popular ministry: MOMS, short for Ministry of Mothers Sharing.
