In today’s paper, I read about how two swine flu cases were seen in the region. Out of POLICY, doctors have been asked to take specimens from the children, on from each county, that have contracted what is believed to be a new strain of swine flu. Both children recovered from the illness without hospitalization, but LEGAL experts are concerned because it remains unclear how the children contracted the disease. The virus regularly causes outbreaks in pigs but rarely in humans. In another story, thieves used a metal cable yesterday to bust a door off its hinges at the San Diego Air and Space Museum and steal the ATM from inside the museums store. An alarm went off to LEGISLATE the situation, but all officers found when they arrived was the metal cable still attached to the door, in front of a pile of broken glass. In another story, a woman pleads guilty in her role after the slaying of her 74-year-old grandmother. Prosecutors said that Amy Jo Mitchell, 33, stole more than $70,000 from bank accounts belonging to her grandmother, Shirley Beggs, and visited her apartment several times after she was killed. Mitchell’s boyfriend, Jeff Nolan, is believed to have confessed to his stepfather of the slaying bfore then killing himself. According to records, officials found Beggs’ decomposed body stuffed into a dresser that was lying on its side and taped up with masking tape. Mitchell is scheduled to be sentenced June 5. She faces up to two years in prison.
Today in the union tribune I read about the American civil liberties union yesterday demanded that the city of Escondido change the way it conducts drivers license checkpoints , which critics say are intended to apprehend and deport illegal immigrants and are resulting in suspicion and resentment among many latinos. At a news conference yesterday in San Diego with El Grupo- a coalition of Latino and vocacy organizations
Today I read about the Somalian pirate that has been captured. The young capture is 14 years old and is going to be tried as an adult in federal court. The pirate is reported saying that he has always wanted to come to America but just not on these terms. The pirate is being charged with piracy, conspiracy, brandishing and firing a gun during a conspiracy. The most serious of those charges comes with a life sentence. The last time a pirate was tried in 1885. I personally think that this is cool because who would think there would be pirates in the 21st century. I don’t think that it’s right we should make a example out of someone who should be in 9th grade I don’t think that’s going to solve anything.
In the San Diego Union Tribune I read about a bewildered Somali teen hears piracy charges in New York. Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse, 18, was photographed is astonishment to the cameras for he had never in his whole life had seen one. Back at home muse grew up as the oldest in his brothers and sisters totaling 12. his parents would gather up a couple dollars a day from selling milk, and tending cows and goats. Eventually he joined a gang of pirates who would come up on cargo ships till three of his friends were killed in a come up operation. The ships crew said that muse said he wanted to one day go to America and that he kept tripping out on the crew being from America. One of the crew members said muse went on to the ship into the captain’s pit firing at the captain but not hitting him. Muse demanded the captain to stop the ship and was stabbed in his hand by a crew member. If he is the age he says he is he is looking at life in prison but if he is under 18 he will be extradition back to Somalia to face law there. They have no yet conformed his age with his mother back home. She is still in complete refusal that her son would have not done that he was tricked into it he was too smart to do something that stupid. Well he made it to America but as a prisoner instead of as a guest.
