Today in Union Tribune I read about General Dynamics says plummeting sales of business and personal jets have forced it to cut production of the luxury planes, leading to the layoffs of 1,200 workers and a reduction in company profit guidance for the year. The company blamed a shrinking backlog at its Gulfstream Aerospace unit, as a drop in demand acceleration during February as the broader economic picture grew bleaker

In today’s newspaper article I read about a car bomb that went off near Baghdad. It was a bomb that went off in one of the known to be safest place’s in Iraq. This bomb killed thirteen people and left fifty-seven people wounded. Farmers, butchers, buyers and more said that they saw flames and people running and cars and more people all scattered all around the ground. The attack happened in Hillah, a city sixty miles south of Baghdad. It was said that there was an attack near by where this one had occurred. It had happened on Feb. 13 and took place just twenty miles to the north in Musayyib, where a female suicide bomber killed forty Shiite pilgrims. Both of these attacks happened where U.S. commanders believed was a safe and secured areas.

Today in the union tribune I read about Barak Obama. Barak Obama says that he is open for ideas about legislation on healthcare. The president says he is trying to have healthcare for all Americans by the end of the year. In local news the American government says they are trying to cut down on the guns that are being shipped into Mexico. The government is limiting gun shows in bordering states and trying to prevent these heinous crimes from continuing. Most of the guns in Mexico some from the United States. Over 90 percent of the guns in Mexico comes from America. This is messed up because we are basically causing a lot of the crime that goes on there because we buy most of the drugs.

In today’s paper I had read that suspects tried to break into a ATM by blow torching into it. They were arrested yesterday after a high speed chase and crash. The police have received the call about 6:20 am. This had happened over in east count in lake side. The ATM was located in front of a liquor store. About four hours later a cop found the car. The car was a white Chrysler PT cruiser with blue rims. He tried to stop him but he couldn’t so that’s when the chase had started and ended. The chase was about 15 minutes and then the suspect ended crashing into a light pole. They had found a blowtorch, a pellet gun, tools ad marijuana in his possession. In other news the border have confiscated 317 pounds of marijuana in campo. But these were to different seizures, the first one was about 7:30 pm Wednesday night and another yesterday morning. One smuggler fled, but agents arrested the other. A 27 year old Mexican national/ the border patrol had heard gunshots on the other side of the fence and they went over to check it. But moments later agents found a suit case and two poorly made backpacks carrying nearly 117 pounds of pot in 27 bundles. Yesterday campo agents came upon three more homemade backpacks bearing nine bundles of pot weighing just more than 200 pounds. The street value of the two loads combined was estimated around nearly $254,000.

In today’s paper I read about how 317 pounds of marijuana seized by Border Patrol agents. The first seizure occurred about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday near state Route 94 just north of the border fence. One smuggler fled and got away, but the other was arrested by agents. The 27-year-old Mexican was in possession of a suitcase and two crudely made backpacks containing nearly 117 pounds of pot in 27 bundles. Yesterday, other Campo agents came upon three more homemade backpacks bearing nine bundles of pot weighing just more than 200 pounds. The street value of the entire two-day seizure is an estimated $254,000. In another story, two gunman wearing masks held up a sushi restaurant. The men were, that were wearing sunglasses and masks, very common elements to crimes such as these. They conducted customers in the sushi restaurant to lie on the floor before they administered the contents of the cash register in their bags and drove off in a stolen car Wednesday night. Both men were described as white and in their 20s. One of the men was said to be about 5 foot 3 inches tall. He wore a gray sweater and black jeans. In addition to taking money from the register, the thieves also stole a purse from one of the customers. Police recovered the getaway car, a Honda Element, on Conrad Street within an hour of the robbery.

Today I read about how shoppers keep frugal habits. Shoppers may be carefully crawling out of their caves to restock their pantries and buy a few more necessities. Retailers released figures yesterday showing that sales kept falling in February but not nearly as much as in January- possibly indicating that business could be stabilizing. Analysts say that’s hardly enough to call the beginning of a recovery. They caution that the better-than-expected reports were helped by better inventory control and point to Wal-Mart’s surging sales as a sign that more people may simply be shifting their spending to cheaper stores. The rift between discount stores and luxury merchants widened in February as shoppers kept worrying about the economy. Economists say that the job market needs to stabilize before shoppers will feel comfortable spending again. Groceries and health products remain the best sellers as shoppers turned to the world’s largest retailer for necessities, echoing trends seen in Wednesday’s earnings reports from Costco and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Wal-Mart also did well with entertainment products and house wares as more families stay at home. Retailers are trying to adapt to consumers frugality, slashing inventory and other costs, while stocking up on products that shoppers need.
