In today’s paper I read about how a new Fed infusion totals $1.2 trillion. Yesterday the Federal Reserve contributed to the nation’s economic down turn by flooding the financial system with an additional $1.2 trillion. The Fed had made the decision to buy government bonds and mortgage-related securities that are designed to lower borrowing costs for home mortgages. In another story a man died after a cigarette had started a fire in his home. The cigarette gutted the interior of his San Carlos home, firefighters said. The victim was the only occupant of the house on Spruce Lake Avenue, south of Jackson Drive. In another story a council berates police union over labor-issue flier. Escondido Council members were outraged that the city police union for distributing what was seen as a racist inflammatory flier to sway public opinion in a bitter labor dispute with the city. A 4-1 vote was later seen out, which imposed the city’s labor offer, which cut benefits but maintains salaries. The Escondido Police Officers Association’s president, Mike Guerrero, said afterward that he expected the outcome, and added that the union’s laws would force binding arbitration.
Today in the union tribune I read about how Only 10 percent of voters questioned in exit polls during the November presidential elections picked the war as their top issue. Sixty-two percent said the economy was. This is already one of the longest wars in American history. There's nothing new in Iraq," said Steven Roberts, a professor of media studies at the George Washington University. "We've read the stories of instability in the government a hundred times. Every single possible story has been told, and so there is enormous fatigue about Iraq."
Today in the newspaper I read about a man that dies in fire. Blaze at house in San Carlos appears to have been started by man smoking in bed. The man was killed yesterday morning when a fire sparked by a cigarette gutted the interior of his San Carlos home the firefighters said. The man was found dead inside after the fire was extinguished. Fire investigators believe the blaze might have started while the victim was smoking in bed, said fire department spokesman Maurice Luque. Damaged was estimated at $400,000. The fire was reported shortly after 9:20am. Like 25 firefighters on four fire engines and one truck had the flames extinguished in about five minutes. But by the time they put it out, it had blown out windows and patio doors. They said the fire was very hot and intense.
Today in the news i read about the AIG flop. AIG has gave over 160 million in bonuses. President Barak Obama said that he ecepts full responsibility for the errors that AIG has made. The presidents top adviser said that they could not stop this money beign paid.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune Federal prosecutors filed civil lawsuits against the Union Pacific railroad company yesterday seeking $37 million in penalties it says the company owes for allowing loads of drugs to be smuggled on its cars into the country. The cars have been bring both marijuana and cocaine. The customs have caught 37 times between 2001 and 2006, customs inspectors at Calexico and Brownsville, Texas, found marijuana and cocaine in railroad cars that were crossing from Mexico. Freights have to take all steps to prevent drugs from being smuggled into the country. Union Pacific has an ownership stake in Ferromex, a major Mexican railroad company. Union Pacific has a 26 percent minority interest in the Mexican company and can't force it to undertake inspections or other measures. company has no control over the railroad cars while they are in Mexico, and cannot take them over at the border until after U.S. customs inspectors have released them.
