Today in The Union Tribune about Cuba Vs. Mexico in The World Baseball Classic. Unfortunately Mexico Lost 16-4. Yulieski Gourbriel, Ariel Pestano an Frederich Cepeda all homered to help Cuba rout Mexico 16-4 in seven innings last night to secure first place in Group B in the World Baseball Classic. Pestano and Cepeda each hit three-run homers in a nine-run seventh-inning rally to lead Cuba to a win by the mercy rule. Gourriel hit a two-run homer in a five-run fourth and finished with four Rbi. Yulieski Gonzalez 1-0 gave up one hit and run, with three strikeouts and two walks in two innings of relief for Cuba, which finished the first round undefeated in three games; Mexico fell to 2-2.

In today’s Union Tribune, I read about how the U.S. plans their responses to Mexico violence. Tighter gun control and stronger law enforcement officers in Southwestern states addressed their concern about Mexican drug violence spilling into Mexico. The violence that has left thousands dead, mainly south of the border, is being blamed on Mexican drug cartels. These cartels are being described as the biggest organized crime threat to the United States. Homeland Security’s head of operations has already outlined the agency’s plan for protecting the border, which includes deploying military personnel and equipment to the region if other begin to become overwhelmed. Another story related primarily to hard economic times for Americans. Bartering is making a comeback, and you can find people like attorneys swapping legal aid for grout work or tree trimming. Home theatre installers are even looking to trade services with oral surgeon. Barter ads on Craigslist have doubled in the past year. As rising jobless and financial set back have the economy going to the extreme just to get by, bartering is becoming the new currency of the economic calamity.

Today in the news I read about homeland security wanting to militarize the border. The violence of the drug war in Mexico is mounting in danger with towns right across from the border. Homeland security is afraid that all this drug violence will spill over onto American streets. These are concerns a lot of people have. The death toll of the drug violence form last year was over 6000 deaths. This is more than deaths than people lost in the Iraq war. These numbers are crazy because most of the killing is due to the demand for drugs in America. The president doesn't feel that the border should be militarized.

Today I read about how Madoff pleads guilty to swindling investors. Bernard Madoff pleaded guilty yesterday to pulling off what could be the biggest, most spectacular swindle Wall Street has ever seen, and was sent off to jail in handcuffs to applause of his furious victims. He said he realized that the day of his arrest inevitably would come. The 70-year-old financer could get up to 150 years in prison at sentencing June 16 on 11 counts, including securities fraud and perjury. He could also be fined and ordered to pay restitution to his victims and forfeit any ill-gotten gains. U.S District Judge Denny Chin promptly revoked the $10 million bail that allowed him to remain free in his $7million penthouse. His victims were happy that he was sent to jail, but not pleased because it still didn’t fix the fact that they lost all the money they did. One of them was just like “ he only goes to jail? What about the people that were truly hurt by it?”. They think he might be protecting someone because he pleaded guilty and put all the blamed on him.
