Today in The Union Tribune I read about how San Diego County continues to rank as the sixth-most distressed housing market in the country, a much-watched survey showed yesterday. But the standard & poor’s case shiller home price index of 20 key markets also showed San Diego prices falling at a steady pace, while price declines in some other markets continue to accelerate.
The index for January showed San Diego single-family resale homes down 2.6 percent from December and 24.9 percent from January 2008, both a bit higher than a month earlier but within the range maintained since last summer.

In today’s paper I had read that a man was found dead on his 21st birthday over at a mission bay resort. Michael Mayfield and three of his friends went to the paradise point resort on vacation road near ingraham street to celebrate his birthday Monday. The group had been drinking before heading to one of the resort’s five pools when it opened at 5 a.m. Two of Mayfield's friends had left him for about 15 minutes. And when they returned , they found Michael floating face down in the hot tub. Police said they will do an autopsy by the medical examiner and noted that alcohol was involved. In other news I had read that a man driving a van had tried to pick up 3 girls that were walking to school. The principal had sent letters to parents Monday saying that the girls got away and immediately reported the incident to office staff. The principal’s letter said that the assault occurred about 8:10 a.m. as the girls were walking to school. A man in an older burgundy colored ford was stopped near the girls at famosa boulevard and valeta street.

Today I read about UCSD e-mail mistakenly sent to denied applicants. High school Rancho Cucamonga was among nearly 30,000 people who received an e-mail this week congratulating them on admission to the University of California San Diego. Only to learn that campus officials had sent the e-mails in error. The campus e-mail sent about 5pm Monday, invited students to an orientation and began with these warm words: “We’re thrilled that you’ve been admitted to UC San Diego..” Admissions directors, Mae Brown said the invitations were supposed to be sent to 18,000 students admitted by the university, instead they went to all 47,000 who applied, including those who had already been rejected. They quickly realized their mistake and that it was sent to a much larger pool than was admitted. Within two hours, the university sent out another blanket e-mail, this one an apology. They said that every admissions officer on campus was staffing phones yesterday to take calls from applicants and their parents. Brown said she stayed at her office until midnight Monday, replying to e-mails and phone messages. For some students like Arya, it was the greatest moments in his life and then boom, the lowest.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune I read about 23 of Tijuana police officers are being held by the Mexican military. Over the last year Tijuana police department has gotten rid of 400 officers or they have resigned. The police they have let go are men who had ties to the cartels that are terrorizing the society. 23 more men have been found to have ties to the cartels. Federal Judge has ordered the officers stay in custody for 40 days so federal agents can interrogate them. Captain said even if they prove they do not have any ties they will still no be able to go back into the force. Authorities say they are not the first and certainly not the last. They will continue cleansing the department. Men are said to have been being paid by an officer caught march 19 with a 9 mm and 40 packages of crystal meth.in November 20 officers of both Tijuana and San Diego were questioned about having ties to the cartel leaders.

In today’s DATA, I read about the deadlines that GM and Chrysler have to get back to get back on track. Fritz Henderson, the new executive chief of General Motors, discussed how he will not wait around to find out what the Obama administration wants him to cut. His expectations of the company are that they must cut deeper, work harder, and move faster. Chrysler on the other hand is worse off. COMPARED to GM they must cover more of a RANGE in half the time. In another story, the government has taken a big step forward in warning the public to avoid pistachios before the fact. Finally instead of waiting around for contaminated food to surface one by one, the government is jumping on the problem right away. The contaminated pasticcios are said to contain salmonella. In another story, a man was found dead in a hotel hot tub after his 21st birthday. Michael Mayfield and three of his friends were said to have been drinking in celebration of the young man’s step into adulthood, when they left him in the Jacuzzi for about 15 minutes only to return to find him floating face down, dead. Alcohol is a major factor in the continuing investigation. In another story, a man driving a van assaulted three girls on their way to school. A school official, who witnessed the attack, told authorities that the man got out of his vehicle and tried to grab the young students. Fortunately the girls were able to get away and immediately report the incident.

Today I read in the news about president Barak Obama meeting with other nations to handle this world wide economic failure. President Obama is planning to have other countries follow his bailout plan. So far no other nations are showing signs if they will follow suit. The French president has hinted that if a international financial regulatory agency is not created he will be not staying for the rest of the talks. Seventeen of these countries including the U.S. have limited imports to try and counter this economic crisis. In Iranian news the U.S. is trying to make advances toward ending the differences in our two nations. Comparing the range of data of the two nations we both have a long way to go before Iran and America are both on the same page. The Iranian people feel that more foreign troops in Afghanistan would not help the already combustible situation. Iran does feel that teaming up to conquer the problem in Iran would be smart. The U.S. would like the Iranian government to help set free two imprisoned Americans and find another that was reported missing.
