Today in The Union Tribune I read about amid rising pressure from Congress and taxpayers, American International Group yesterday released the names of dozens of financial institutions that benefited from the federal reserve’s decision last fall to save the giant insurer from collapse with a huge rescue loan. Financial companies that received multibillion-dollar payments owed by AIG include Goldman Sachs.

In today’s paper, I read about a man who was shot in the nose. Investigators believe that it may have been a gang-related assault. The shooting happened 3 p.m. in the middle of 41st Street. The man’s wound was not life-threatening. In another story, some Las Vegas casino have been looking into the possibility that signature smells in casino’s may increase spending rates in those areas. Chicago neurologist Alan Hirsch pumped a pleasant into a section of the casino floor in the Las Vegas Hilton. Gamblers reportedly spent 45 percent more money in the with the pleasant aroma. The assumption is that if people linger longer in an environment for one reason or another, they will spend more money. In a final story, the remains found on a local beach have been confirmed to be those of an animal. Authorities taped off the area, but the body later was determined to not be the remains of a human. The type of animal has yet to be determined.

As the search continues, investigators still have no clue where Amber is or even know a clue that will lead to her. About last week, policed issued a search warrant on Yahoo! Inc. requesting for information under, “ wolfintheend” which was Amber’s screen name. In some cases, serving search warrants to look into computers and search engines are common for investigators to go through. Not only did they go through her computer usage, but also her cell phone records, hoping they would find a clue of Ambers whereabouts. Amber was last seen on February 13, 2009 around 7 o’ clock in the morning with a dark slender male. According to the police at that time they were near Escondido High School, in which she never showed up to class. When Amber was reported missing, investigators interviewed some of her school friends, just incase she knows where she was. According to their interview, Amber had told them she was chatting with boys online. So police investigators searched Ambers hard drive computer for clues. The search for Amber will continue until they at least find her or at least a clue of what happened to her.

Today in the news I read about Taliban militants who attacked a convoy of U.N supplies. The militants destroyed all the supplies with rocket fire and mortars. In Afghanistan an airbase was attacked by a suicide bomber and left three contractors dead. In other Afghan news faulty wiring will lead to death if left un treated. The faulty wiring on base has already left troops overseas dead in still in harms way.

Today I read about a whale that is on the bay. It spent the day swimming around the bay. Wayward whale bay stay continues, it appeared ready to leave, but it returned. The young gray whale that has become a local celebrity in San Diego Bay cruised up and down the bay yesterday. In the evening the whale was spotted near Ballast Point on Point Loma. The 30-foot juvenile, thought to be 1 to 2 years old, arrived in the Bay Tuesday, apparently on its migration route between Baja California and Alaska. The whale then was headed north, passing the San Diego Coronado Bridge in the early afternoon. Two coast guards auxiliary boats with trained volunteers on board kept an eye on the whale to make sure it wouldn’t be hit by passing vessels or harassed by curious onlookers, Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Josh Nelson said. A biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service in San Diego said he has studied helicopter footage of the whale and has been nothing that indicates it is in distress. The whale looks healthy. Its moving and swimming well . The whale looked thin but its not emaciated. This time of the year they tend to look thin.

In the San Diego Union Tribune I read the American tourist in the country just south of the border is down. Studies have a couple of the reasons people do not travel to the historic-rich country of México is the fear of all the violence lately reported in the media. Another reason might be the fact that our country is in a recession which does not leave Americans with money to discover the Spanish coquetted country. Jessica Lucero, assistant director of Tijuana's conventions and visitors committee assures they are now thinking of new ways to bring the tourism back into México. The country receives a high amount of income though tourism.
