Today in Union Tribune a former highway patrol officer accused of fixing a woman’s traffic ticket in exchange for sex was jailed yesterday after he was charged with three felonies. Abram Carabajal, 52, who had been a 26-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol pleaded not guilty to perjury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and accepting a bribe. Authorities say Carabajal pulled over Shirin Zarrindej of Encino for speeding on Interstate 5 on March 12, 2008, and he was later given a subpoena to testify when Zarrindej contested her ticket. This was a wrong thing for the officer to do.
Today I read about an ex-CHP officer charged with three felonies. A former highway patrol officer accused of fixing a woman’s traffic ticket in exchange for sex was jailed yesterday after he was charged with three felonies. Abram Carabajal, 52, pleaded not guilty to perjury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and accepting a bribe. Authorities said that Carabajal pulled over Shirin Zarrindej of Encino for speeding on Interstate 5 on March 12,2008, and he was later given a subpoena to testify when Zarrindej contested her ticket. Carabajal testified July 1 that he didn’t receive the subpoena and asked to have Zarrindej’s case dismissed. CHP investigators said they saw him walking arm in arm with Zarrindej’s into the GuestHouse Inn & Suites on North Coast Highway in Oceanside shortly after the court appearance. According to the complaint filed against Carabajal and Zarrindej in Vista Superior Court last week, Carabajal submitted overtime paperwork for the time he spent in the hotel with Zarrindej. Carabajal bail is up to 50,000. he is married with five children and is living off his CHP pension and that its going to be very difficult for him to post bail. Prosecutor Jeff Dort said Zarrindej, 48, was arrested Monday in Los Angeles and posted $50,000. Carabajal and Zarrindej each face a maximum of five years and four months in prison if convicted, Dort said.
In today's paper I read that Mexico gun crimes can be attributed to the United States. Yesterday the Obama administration said hundreds of DEA and ATF officials are headed to the border. The bloody drug war which caused 7000 deaths in 16 months has become a big sore for Mexican officials. The last 15 years border patrol has increased its policies.
In today’s paper I read about a chilling story where one MTS Transit employee lost it and gunned down to of his coworkers. Apparently Lonnie Glasco, 47, had suffered major losses in recent times such as his marriage and a home in Alpine that had been such a major part of his life for so long. In another story, investigators are discovering major flows of U.S. weapons into the hands of Mexican cartels. After a shootout in a peaceful Tijuana cul-de-sac left a soldier and four drug cartel suspects dead, authorities began looking through the carnage found weapons. Out of the fourteen guns that were found, five of them were purchased in Las Vegas. As it turns out Las Vegas has been acting as a port of a major gun smuggling pipeline that runs illegal weapons through California into Tijuana. In another story, a former California Highway Patrol Officer has been charged with 3 felony counts. Abram Carabajal, 52, pleaded not guilty for charges involving the officer with fixing a woman’s ticket in exchange for sex. CHP investigators also claimed seeing the 26-year veteran walking arm and arm with the woman into the GuestHouse Inn & Suites on North Coast Highway in Oceanside right after his court appearance.
