Today in the news I read about President Obama talking about the war in Afghanistan. President Obama says we need to have an exit strategy in this war and not just throwing troops to the front line. Other European countries are saying that in the next three years they will be pulling their troops from Afghanistan. In California news a man shot and killed three police officers yesterday in two separate incidents. The 26 year old man got pulled over and killed two officers. Later when police raided his sister’s house he killed another officer on entry. The man was said to be frustrated because he did not find work and did not want to go back to jail.

In today’s paper I read about the close call that was involved in the stabbing of a police dog. San Diego police Sgt. Jesse Havin has shared his cruiser with police dog Earp for five years, and so he received quite a scare when almost losing his best friend. It took less than a minute to escape the crime scene, and less than five minutes to arrive at the nearest hospital. The German shepherd is 8 years old and 1 month away from retirement. In another story, Nissan announced that a new electric car will hit the markets in 2010. The five passenger compact is expected to go 100 miles on a four-hour charger of its lithium-ion batteries. The car that has been shown has all of the technology of the new car but is housed in the shell of another model, the Nissan Cube. In another story, the Zeebo game console has stated that it is ready to reveal its new game plan. The partnership between Qualcomm and Brazilian video game company Tectoy S.A. has made a system that plays games on televisions using a console powered by a Qualcomm phone chip. The system is not expected to compete with the systems such as the Xbox 360, Wii, or Playstation 3, but will target the middle class.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune four men were caught trying to smuggle marijuana into the states. The men were in a small boat in international waters when spotted by the U.S. Coast Guards. The guards sent a C-130 plane to spot out the boat. The smugglers in the small boat tried fleeing while dumping loads of marijuana into the ocean. The boat was spotted 60 miles west of Isla Cedros. The Mexican navy patrol boat took custody of the smugglers and the boat while the U.S. Coast Guards came back to land with 16,588 pounds of marijuana. The 8 tons is estimated at $15 million dollars. The borders is getting harder and harder to smuggle drugs by so smugglers are trying to flood the waters with drug boats.

Today in the union tribune I read about betty burns a senior at Ohio wesleyan when she read the local newspaper that a young up-and-comer named Tara Vanderveer had just been hired as head coach at Ohio state. It was only when she arrived at vanderveers office-unannounced of course, that she looked down at the resume she had brought and realized it was a syllabus from one of her classes.

In today’s CNN news for march 23, 2009 I read that Vicente Zambada, or also known as “El Vicentillo,” was arrested on Wednesday of last week along with five other people. Vicente is the son of a top drug cartel lieutenant. He is the son of Ismael Zambada Garcia, or also known as, “El Mayo.” Other five other men were acting suspicious and were therefore arrested. Not only were they acting suspicious, but they also had military- grade weapons. The alleged cartel leader who had escaped a Mexican prison in 2001, and was named in this years Forbe’s magazine report on the World’s Billionaires is Guzman. In the whole world he ranked from the place of 701. According to Mexican President Felipe Calderon, about 6,500 people died in the drug war in Mexico of last year.
