Today in the news I read about a naval ship harassed off the coast of China. The U.S naval vessel was a mapping ship doing routine missions. The vessel was surrounded by five ships and pelted with objects. One of the ships even tried playing chicken with the naval ship. This called an abrupt halt to the naval ship but did not damage it or cause any injuries. This came as a surprise because just a week before the U.S and china had peace talks and talks of moving forward in the world. In local news a officer is faced with 20 embezzlement charges for sneaking in things for inmates for local prisoners. This is shocking and appalling.

Today in the Union Tribune I read about Kiva Minelli Herman’s four-day run as Kiva Las Vegas at The orleans arena only lacked for the confetti-from-the-ceiling finale that her teammates and USD women’s basketball fans were hoping to see. The 6-foot senior forwards performance yesterday was the same show-stopper mold as the ones that preceded it Friday, Saturday and Sunday- 23 points on 53 percent shooting and six rebounds.

In today’s paper, the power of naps were being praised. Naps have been a lost resource, people just don’t have time to curl up and take a nice nap these days. Sleep researchers argue that naps put coffee to shame because they are free, and studies show that they improve typing, memory, recall and certain other job skills better the caffeine. In another story, the arrest of a high ranking drug trafficker by the Mexican Military early Sunday resulted in the detention of at least a dozen state and municipal law enforcement officers. Angel Jacome Gamboa, a former soldier and police officer, was one of the 54 people taken into custody when the Mexican military raided a girl’s 15th birthday celebration at a social hall in Tijuana. The detentions represent a major blow to the resources of a notoriously brutal drug cartel that is headed by Teodoro Eduardo Garcia Simental. In local news, Annete Yeomans, 51, was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday bu the hearing was continued until March 17 at her lawyer’s request. Yeomans faces 20 counts of embezzlement and could face 40 years in prison. She has said to have transferred all of the money while working as chief financial officer at Quality Woodworks Inc. of San Marcos. Apparently she was seeking to remodel her home, and to gamble at San Diego County casinos and to buy designer shoes, purses and clothing.

In today’s paper I have read that a mentally ill man was arrested for going to church with a gun telling his wife that he was going to just talk to the pastor but the wife insisted on calling the police. The mans wife called the police at about 6:45 a.m. to report what she saw what was going on. Paramedics and police rushed to the church and waited nearby while 17 officers and a police dog surrounded the building. Officers then spotted the man with a revolver. The man walked out of the building numerous times with the handgun and was very agitated. Police said that he went to his waistband to reach for his gun but didn’t. a officer had then fired a rubber bullet at him but missed. Police said the man dropped his gun and laid on the ground as soon as he heard the shot. He was booked into jail for investigation of weapons charges. Police seized a rifle and ammunition from his home.

Today I read about a crackdown snares 12 cops. The arrest of a high-ranking drug trafficker by the Mexican military early Sunday has led to the detention of at least a dozen state and municipal law enforcement officers suspected of cooperating with organized crime, authorities said yesterday. Angel Jacome Gamboa, a former soldier and ex- Rosarito Beach Police officer nicknamed El Kaibil, was one of the 54 people taken into custody when the Mexican military raided a girl’s 15th birthday celebration at a social hall in eastern Tijuana. Two state law enforcement officers were among those arrested at the party, while six others were subsequently detained, authorities said. In addition, four members of the Rosarito Beach Police Department were taken into custody yesterday morning after being summoned to a City Hall meeting. The detentions represent a major blow to the notoriously brutal drug trafficking organization headed by Teodoro Eduardo Garcia Simental. Garcia was a former lieutenant in the Arellano last year and has been fighting for control of the region’s drug trafficking routes.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune 60 men are in Mexican Military hands. The men were arrested while attending a Quince in the eastern part of Tijuana. The high ranking drug traffickers has lead to the detention of at least a dozen state and municipals law enforcement officers. Suspected of cooperating with organized crime mobs. Four officers from the Rosarito police force were among those under arrest and eight state officers were also some of the authorities detained. The detentions were a great blow to the Teodoro Eduardo Garcia Simental crime organization. Some of the weapons were more powerful than those of the officers. A hand gun found on one of the men was gold plated with an unscriptural of the Santa Muerte. The arrest lead to a safe house that found a 42 year-old businessman with his little finger cut off.
